Welcome :)

Immobiliser depends on year. I dont think any were as standard before 1995.

They are undersealed as standard, but its easy enough to do again yourself for extra protection.

If its just an Immobiliser your after, then I would go for the cheapest Thatcham category 2 Approved one that your nearest Alarm installer offers.

If you were going for an Alarm though, then that gets a lot more complicated with choices, but you cant go wrong with the Reliable Toad Ai606.

Well done on getting a ZX, join the obsession. If you look through http://www.autotrader.co.uk you can get a Thatcham cat 2 immobilsor for £60. Fitting is around £80 for someone who is certified. My car is lowered and waxyoil'ed underneath and the dude at Autolink suggested i get it redone every year. In the winter i hear a constant noise of debris from the road hitting the underside.

Does the Toad alarm system you mentioned come with immoboliser? Sorry bout the questions but Im not that clued up about this....

Also, if I want it lowered will it be a choppy ride? I currently have a Maxda 323f and I got that lowered with PI sports springs and its so rattley and bumpy...don't think I can take that with the new arrival!

Wow..! nice car!!

I think I'll go for the Toad Ai606. I'll have a look on the net and order. No doubt when I get delivery of the nissan I'll be asking a load more questions :-)

Are the ariels electric?

Hiya and welcome.

Category 2 Thatcham is an immobiliser alone.

Offer up a fob to the receptor in the car - usually placed around the steering column.

Then put key in and start.

Category 1 Thatcham is an immobiliser and alarm system.

These are normally wired to the central locking and a remote control.

As you approach the car - press the button, car unlocks, turns off alarm and immobiliser, get yer key in and start.

Cat 2 - about £80 fitted

Cat 1 - about £200 fitted.

If it was me - cat1 every time - the ease of use is too hard to pass up.

:)

Mine is lowered about 30 mm, Eibach springs, I haven't noticed it being choppy at all, but I would suggest 18" plus rims as it tends to catch on 16".

I am a pleb and i really need to use a key to open and lock the doors. When i had remote control central locking on my Pug 406 i kept forgeting to shut the car. And the locking up ritual on my ZX gives me some piece of mind.
