Just want to ask everyones opinion on blow off valves for the zed. I had an Apexi one on my MR2 turbo which, though it sounded good, did seem to have a negative effect in the sense that it seemed to be trying to dump boost when you were simply cruising without much in the way of throttle usage from myself. Basically I could hear it trying to "dump" and I could feel a stutter as it did so. In the end, having tried several different levels of tightness on the adjuster bolt, I dumped the dump valve!

My question to you lot is, have any of you that have one fitted noticed this effect on your car or was it just an MR2 thing or perhaps an Apexi thing? Which one would you reccommend, if any? The only reason I am thinking about fitting one is there is a brand new HKS super sequential on ebay £120 buy it now which Id say is a good price. I know that with only stage 1 of tuning on my car I dont need one and will get know benefit other than the sound until high boost is run but well its a good price.

i've got blitz dump valves on my 91 tt auto. it actually seems quite hard work to make them ''dump''.you seem to have to be at full boost to get anything at all from them.maybe its just my car.its the complete opposite to the turbo cars i've had before  (s13,s14 ect)

My APexi's behave themselves, they may seem to go off a little earlier now since the boost increase but I guess I just need to adjust them.

Without being too luddite doesn't the zed have re-circulating valves as standard?

Isn't fitting dump valves a retrograde step?

Unless you have fitted some seriously big aftermarket turbos what is the benefit?

Is it just a matter of getting that 'cool' whooshing sound with actually worse performance?

yes it does.

well not really. most people will argue the toss that the performance 'loss' between atmospheric BOVs and recirculating BOVs is minimal. fairly pointless on an auto (instantaneous change-up but you can still 'whoosh' when you want to although you need to take your foot off the gas and then floor it again to change up which probably sounds a bit weird to a clued-up passer-by!) but good on a manual if you like that sort of thing (like yours truly :D )

Dont forget you'll need two. so thats £240

And as previously mentionend te Zed already has them as standard, except they are recirculating versions rather than atmospheric versions.

They have to be set right, the dumping on your MR poo was due to them being too sensitive or weak.

I have just fitted a set of HKS sequentials, and they are bloody loud.

who cares if they do anything the noise is enough lol
