I have here a DVD, fully paid for, original, cost an arm and a leg. Now I would like to make a backup of this DVD film on my hard drive. I have some software called shrink DVD but it takes 2 hours for 1 hour of film and the overall filze size (compresed - aparently) is just under 4GB :( That is a) too slow and b) not compressed!

Can anyone recommend some software which would do this quickly? I have a P4 2GHz processor and 512MB RAM, surely this time can be improved upon?

Free software would be nice but i can pay (find a serial number ;)) if necessary :D

Thanks

Yeah thats what i'm using mate, but it has taken 2 hours to output a load of files which are on the DVD. If i wanted to copy it i could have copied all the data in 10 minutes flat ;) How do i get it to output Divx or mpeg files? Ideally I would like to output around 700 MB for a movie? How long does it take to do say an hour and a half normally? I just went on msn and you went offline  we're a right pair!

I use camera mate, will import dvd and chuck it out as svcd or vcd

not sure why shrink is taking you that long m8??

quick run through in case your doing it differently

ill assume your using one drive

make two folders on your desk top AUDIO_TS

and VIDEO_TS

put the dvd in the writer

start shrink, open disc and point it at the drive

takes about 30-secs to analyse the disc

on the compression settings change it to custom

and move the slider slowly until the red goes

(not sure if you meant the dvd was 4 gig before compression, if so you dont need to touch the settings)

then select back up, and point the image to be saved as VIDEO_TS

it then should take about 15 mins-1/2 hour max to encode

then when finished using something like recordnow max, use the data mode and drag the two folders you made into it and burn

What I'm trying to do is store in on my HDD in avi format, tried to encode to DivX with no joy, but i want a file which is around 700MB, good quality, that ii can watch without the DVD.

I didn't think i was asking much but apparently you have to move heaven and earth to do this with a 6 hour wait and a computer running like a 486. Been doing this since my first post and im tearing my hair out :(

Thanks for the help though bud

ok thats slightly different m8 (sorry i didnt see your post saying you wanted it to divx) and as your compressing that much its possible you will take LONGER, as you say encoding it takes no time at all, so you will need to encode it to your h/d first using shrink or dvd decrypter

check out a programme called canopus procoder, ive never used it to MAKE a divx, but used it to convert the other way and it works well, it IS time consuming but does the job well

This must be seriously good porn to go to all this trouble.......... :D :D :D
