When adjusting your headlights is it 5m from a wall and your beam should be same height as headlights?

Best way to see whether the lights need adjusting is by parking the car 5 metres from a wall and seeing where the light hits. At that distance the top of the main light pattern should be at the same height as the physical height of the headlights as mounted in the car

This is what the manual says http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/manual/manual/el/054.gif but UK MOT laws etc may be different.

the top of the beam pattern should be a smidge below the height of the centre of the headlamp.

 

its about a 2-4% dip IIRC
