With the dirty roads my car needs washing loads.

A new fancy car wash has opened just near me which included 'underbody spray with rust inhibiter' or something like that.

I'd like to use it cos a) it's easy and b) I like the idea of the underneath being cleaned / rust inhibited.

I know the common wisdom is that a car wash can damage your car but has anyone ever seen a car that actuially has been damaged by one?

Are we talking proper damage or slight swirls in the paint that polish out?

I used to put my S13 200SX through one for years and the paint still looked gorgeous when I sold it. Could modern car washes be ok to use?

What do you think?

Yes they do. Bristles retain the crap from other cars, bristles also go hard and fray, ALSO, the chemicals in them are no good.

Only advisable for company car use!

My company car is a hand me down. I get a brand new one in a few months time. Anyway, the current one has seen carwash use almost all of its life, whilst it comes up ok after a wax, there's so many small scratches on it and swirl marks.

I would steer clear of them especially if you have a zed. The reason I say this is because I took my zed through a fancy IMO car wash and it put a swirl mark on the door. The zed is wider than a normal car so I would not risk it mate.

Ive taken my SWB thru one once, only cos its getting a re-spray soon thou!! :D

There are two american style car washes in bedford and they use these special foam brushes and they dont leave the tiny swirly scratch marks on the paintwork. The car actually moves through the wash on a rolling road thingy. (you know the type) I took my ZED through once and believe me it was tuoch and go. My rims (rear) were just wide enough to fit the runners that are about 10" wide. As it entered the wash the bloke said I am sorry mate but you enter at your own risk with that big spoiler on. But it did a good job.

I had brid 5hit on my bonnet and used a Jet wash which lifted the laquer where the bird turd was.

i personally only use the jet wash, but not the brush, just high pressure shampoo and rinse.

karl

i got me own jet pressure washer, still havent washed the motor in weeks is too damn cold

I use a valet service instead, they do a great job.

I did use a car wash a couple of times but found that the targa leaked and I got a wet leg!

With my highline rear spoiler I cannot use the car wash, I use good old fasion hose and bucket with Mequires tech wax.

Wentt through car wash and when it came out I had loads of scratches on the wings and down the doors. Not going to use one again.

I do mine by hand every time, I enjoy it! The Flash car wash thingy is a godsend though IMO, if you wanna do a quick wash.

That's not an invite for you lot to turn up at my house expecting a wash and polish :nono: :D

always hand wash, not worth the risk imo

I do mine by hand every time, I enjoy it!

I could have worded that a little better :nelson:
