My zed needs new front tyres. Its a 90 TT auto and the front tyres are dead. Currently its got shi##y tyres on from previous owner, and the front has always been a bit lively. the size is about 225/40/R18 from memory. What do people think are the best on a zed for fast road driving?

Also best place to buy them? cheers all

I don't think you can get a better tyre.

But I would go to 235's on the front

can i just stick on 235s? ignorance coming out, at the moment they are 225/45/r18 so what do i get by going to 235 and will they fit the same wheel?

For the uneducated, use Falken 451's same compound of rubber with even better handling properties and last longer than both, and are a 1/3 of the price ;) :hyper:

Sorry Chris but....£15 difference between them and Goodyear F1's for my fronts - 235/40/17 ,except independent test by Reifenfest.com shows the F1's to have better dry and wet handling and braking, lower noise, more comfort and a better wear rate than the Falken 451's !

Try that on 18's my Falkens were £50 cheaper than F1's or Toyos and ive used all 3 and these are the best, dont need no website or tosser tester to tell me whats better

I'm gonna agree with you Chris on this one!! I'm running Falken FK451's all round on my Z 265x35x18 on the back and 235x40x18 on the front and have had them on there for 1 year and 8months so far and the've still got loads of meat left on them!!!!

Used to run them on my 338BHP S12 Silvia too (225x45x16") then changed to Toyo T1-s's then back to Falken's.. (It's amazing how a like Silvia is to the Z!)

The grip is fantastic and In my honest opionion just as good as the Toyo T1-S's is was running before but the durabilty is a lot longer.. Only got 1 year and 2months out of the toyo's before they became illegal!!!

Interesting point to note with the Falkens is when your on the limit of adhesion you get into a progressive slide which is easy to get the Z back in line again when the tyres start to sqeel but i've noticed with the Toyo's although they are an excellent tyre soon as they start to squeel you better be quick on the opposite lock else your gonna fall off the road!!

Flakens we're pretty good in the snow recently too, although the Z'ed was spinning everywhere with a bit of light footed right foot control you could get moving easily! A good all round tyre IMHO! :hyper:

I've got these and so far so good. I have had a couple of punctures but TBH that is probably down to tyre surface size and the odds are you will hit more debris as a result. I paid about £120 tops for each tyre IIRC.

great stuff guys. backto the sizing issue, can i just stick on 235s? or will i need new wheels to get the extra size (hence not bother..?)

It depends how wide your rims are. Mine are 8.5 and I have 235s.

is there an easy way to tell how wide the rim is? the last guy put them on so ive no idea on the size?

It normally says on the inner rim of the wheel

You can select goodyear from the Manfucturer dropdown, although everysize I try brings them up anyway.

Listed as :

Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3

Speed index - Z,X,Y(150mph+)

Ive just fitted Goodyear F1 GSD3s on my front - 235/40/ZR17

Got F1 GSD3s all round now - woohoo :)

Cant fault em

Seeing as mytyres don't stock Toyo T1-S any more, and the new T1-R tread pattern looks poo, I'll be going for the Falkens when I get my Enkei's refurbed (yes, I know, I still haven't got round to it :headvswal), as I've only heard good things about them - and they're a bloody good price at the moment too!

well after going over to the dark side to the skylines the falkens are the tyre of choice on there due to the grip etc and refered to the toyos and goodyears, i do like the goodyears and tey will outlast the falkens but in these cars i prefer grip :)

Also just to throw some technical shite into this the wheels i just bought are made by ultralite who recently tested the toyos, falkens and a few other grands including the new goodyears round the ring with full racing backup in their demo R34 GTR and out of all 4 tyres they used on the same rims with the same racing driver in the same conditions to get a good comparison the toyos came out second but were a little unpredictable and had anything upto 15 seconds a lap difference but the falkens came out top by over 15 seconds a lap and never went more or less than 5 seconds a lap difference hence making it a good redictable tyre :)

235/?/17 on the front ang 265/?/17 on the back is this the right width for the front and back
