Heater Matrix - Help needed desperately

Hey guys

I'm not a happy bunny at all :( most of you will know i got a 1990 LWB NA Manual import and the matrix has expired as do lots of them when previous owners can't be arsed changing the anti freeze.

I've completely stripped the dash and all anciliaries (see pic) and i know where the heater is. I have followed all the available information that some of you have sent me and from hunting around the site, but i CANNOT find this elusive bolt that holds on the heater matrix to the pipes. PLUS i have MANUAL so i can't get it out anyway. I'm completely lost. Now i'm no newbie to repairing cars cos i've restored them from nothing before and am in the middle of a trans am resto but this is madness.

Next problem i also need to replace my belts and clutch master cylinder seals so i might as well get this all done at once as the dash is off and to flush the rad i'll take it off so giving me access to the belts.

I DESPERATELY need someone who's done this job on a manual to help me or anyone who has done anything to do with removing the clutch pedal would be a start. I don't know what to say but i'm hiring a car while mine is off the road and unlike a lot of you, my z is an everyday car so its crippling me. I've spent four days on it with next to no sleep and i simply cannot find this damn bolt or any solution to removing it when its off. I've even disconnected the pipes from the matrix and they won't go anywhere.

I'm lost guys and really need a favour. Whatever it takes I'll do just please someone come help me

Regards

a very 'end of tether' Rich

Brilliant picture - I feel for ya... Got the same halogen light myself. Lovely working in the dark with no space to move and everything you touch is black. I've just spent (since Saturday) near on 14 hours under the car (not in one stint), and fortunately I fixed it (third attempt).

I can't help you with the heater matrix though, but you pic reminds me I must put change the antifreeze and use distilled water too - next job on the list.

Good luck - I'm sure one of the guys on here will come to your rescue - Jeff normally digs me out of the sh#t - you can't beat experience.

Kinght Rider,

Do you have a phone number, have done abot 50 heater matrix most with manual box`s so I will go through clutch removal and the elusive bolt with you in detail , or call me.

Jeff TT

Rich - prop bearings are relatively easy. Just get it right first time. Rear Gear box is under the car with a spare jack to hold up the box and a couple of spanners - straight forward. Centre bearing is more difficult, You can seperate the exhaust behind the cats, remove the cats heat shield, seperate the front half of the prop from the back half (4 bolts - mark the front and back first so that they go back in the same place) undo the 2 bolts that hold the bearing in place (note where the spacer washers go) and then withdraw the front prop and bearing.

IMPORTANT - mark the flange that had the 4 bolts in it so that it aligns with the notch in the threaded shaft/nut. Remove nut, remove flange, remove knackered bearing (puller), clean and grease and as they say in all good manuals - refiting is a reversal of the dissambly proceedure... just make sure the spacers go between the bearing carrier and the car (thanks Jeff).

...it helps to disconnect the middle exhaust rubber carriers too...

Good luck

Jack

- if you need more detail - just let me know.

Rich, pm me you address bud, I can call over the weekend and sort the matrix for you, done 2 of these.......found them easy if not a little time consuming.

Hey up matey!!

Yeah it looks a bit of a mess but u gotta remember that most of the loose cables you can see are aftermarket, such as the stereo wiring, all the amp and audio cabling, interior low glo neons and controllers, alarm system etc. If your car isn't carrying all this crap it doesn't look half as bad!!

You should try doin an trans am with an intelligent alarm system that does EVERYTHING on the car!! Now thats wiring!!

Later people
