what 1/4 mile time have you had?

 

power, torque?

 

engine mods?

 

how much work is needed to get mid 12s?

 

400/450 hp 300z's doing mid 13/14s seem abit crap!!

 

400 hp mr2= high 11s!

 

i know z's are good in triple figs but i dont care as i dont want to really do triples!

 

just rapid in towns, duel garrage ways . rapid up till 140/150 will do

I love the old MR2 banter and what makes my comments more solid is the mrs owning an REV3 MR2 tub.

 

It IS a nice looking car, make no mistake, power wise, its not bad, a completely different drive to the 300 but it does push you back in your seat. After just chaning the clutch on the MR2, I can honestly say that it is a TOTAL b1tch to work on, to almost do any job the engines gotta come out WTF?!? I thought the Zed was difficult!

 

Drivewise, the MR2 doesnt feel as planted as the Zed, as it wouldnt for a lighter mid-engined car but the WORST part about the car, and even the mrs (Owner of the MR2 Turbo) agrees that its total sh1t around bends without seriously modifying the suspension, and then what its like remains to be seen. Then engine is int he wrong place for cornering, great for launches but soon as you try and swing the back end out, it 360's!!!! And yes, I can drive! :D

 

My overall opinion, its a womans car with a turbo, blokes dont look right driving them, and the differences between the tub and the na is too small, when they should have made the tub stand out.......overall, I'll never own one but the mrs looks damn sexy behind the wheel.

 

To answer the inital question, I reckon my Zed is as torquey as fook, it just pulls and pulls all the way to 140 then it dies off slightly.....look in my sig at the mods, and after taking Chunk for a ride, he reckons its a mid 12 second car...to go better, more boost, coolers on, stronger internals and 11's are possible.....

As a new owner of a lightly tuned zed (induction, de cat, exhaust, 1 bar boost - its the candy red one with veilside kit purchased from 300horses) I can say, having just sold a MR2 turbo with similar tuning, that the zed is quicker on the road, handles better in terms of control and being solid, and is happy to cruise as well as blast. This is something that you cannot do in an MR2 turbo because unless you thrash it they feel sluggish and even with coilovers and front and rear strut braces its still to bloody twitchy and if you do more than 80mph you feel like the world is coming to an end!! The zed on the other hand is back of seat quick if you give it some but deceptively quick just cruising effortlessly through the gears and you can cruise along at speed and still feel comfortable and in control. I cant comment on quater mile times becuase having only owned the zed since monday I aint tried that one yet! But I can say that the best I could manage in the MR2 was 14.7 @ 92 mph but then again I have only had six attempts. What let it down for me was the gear ratios are too short. Not a problem on zeds id say.

Chris before the cherry red zed I had a 6 speed TT Supra which I did the 1/4 mile in. Supra did it in 13.8. Now the Supra and the Zed feel the same and were both knocking on 350 bhp so I reckon a safe guesstimate would be high 13s for your Zed. The only way to get significant more power before replacing turbos would be down the ecu route, could get you 40 bhp - then theres potential fuelling and mapping problems if you do that

zed doesnt need to be a 12 second car..it has class sophistication and panache. things an MR2 owner wouldnt understand. drive one to actually understand it mr boy racer. you ve been doing nothing but saying stupid things on this thread.. if u want one the go and buy one thats if you can afford the upkeep if you dont want one then who fookin cares. you probably couldnt even afford the fookin petrol on these things. An MR2 is a wanna be zed for wanna be super car owners. group 18 insurance.. consider that B4 you mouth off about owning one. do you have ANY idea how much money you'd have to spend to make one of these bastids become a sub-12 car? ask mac 1.

i know some one that has a mr2 with just under 400hp and he did 0-60 in 4.2 and 1/4 mile in 12.3

 

i guess the zed will be very nice to drive having alot of torqe, as my mr dont pick up till 3/4 k! but is still a fast car.

 

maybe its just that i think a car that can do a 1/4 in the 12s must be quick on the streets and i've been looking @ the zed all wrong?! i dont wanna do barry boy wheel spins and standing starts on normal roads! +fuk me car! sure a zed will be faster than a mr2 on a rolling start in second?!

In 2,3 or 4th a zed would leave a tubby in its mirror - zed is heavy but once it is launched the torque would take over and wipe out any tubby.

No no no mate, the difference is that when you wanna change something as simple as the spark plugs you can do it without having to remove balance bars and coil packs and f\/ck knows what else on a Z. Dizzie and rotor cap FFS makes life that much easier on an MR even I can do it and have done.

 

Oh and yeah I agree that to do a clutch on an MR requires the engine to be dropped but how often does that happen? Toyota reliability means that that only takes place once in a blue moon/new super nova being formed! PMSL :D

 

Whereas with a Z? Yeah they're the most mechanically friendly motor I've ever come across...give yer head a wobble fella! LOL :D

Now as you all probably know i aint no expert. BUT! It has appeared to me that Nissan produced this car with the intent that your average joe could experiance the joys of a class sports car with power to boot that would compete with the 100 odd grand cars from Italy. Now this being the case and a MR2 being a hairdressers car anyway :rofl: no one is entitled to slag the 300ZX off. NO ONE. Plenty of people have modded their 300 and in some cases taken it to ridiculas heights never imagined by the designers. Ok you can do this with most cars but in its normal guise and factory shipped the car is fooking awsume without doubt. and for £28-30,000 new?

So anyone who thinks these cars are not up to it. Think again. almost every MKIII supra owner on their site slags the ZX off but if the truth be known..They all want one really as is the same with most, not all but most other jap sports car owners. They live in envy of us on here. So wheres the problem. sit back and enjoy the envy i say and do. :smw:

rs turbos and cossies and subarus dont touch the zed. this car is in a league with Porches etc.. as it was launched to compete with the porche.

the forementioned cars are quick off the mark with mediocre torques but the z wasnt designed for that it has very fast initial acceleration BUT midrange acceleration is phenominal. with a lot of money spent it can be made to be a sub 12 machine but thats not why it was designed. p155 on most cars on acceleration in its standard form any how.

I'm sorry but i'm gonna have to stick up for the cossie. We all saw one the other week do over 200 mph on telly and they constantly run faster times than most zeds at the pod. How may 200mph zeds are there in the uk?

 

As for Rs turbos.. its a cracking car for what it is, I cant believe youre even metioning them in the same sentence as a comparison to the zed, afterall they are only a 1.6
