A 245 wide tyre will fit nicely. May not be the maximum size, but I have them fitted on my 8.5 fronts. thats a 245/40-18 sitting on a 8.5" x18" wheel.

im looking to get 235/40 on the front and 255/35 on the rear will 255 fit the wheel ok ?

Well in my opinion a 255 would be better on a 9" wheel. I have a pair of 9" AVS wheels here with 255s on them and they like my Azevs look "right".

Yokohama list preferred and permitted rim widths for all their tyres.

EG 255/40-17 preffered 9" permitted 9 to 9.5.

235/45-17 preferred 8" permitted 7.5 - 9."

This info I have quoted is for Track day Ao32 and AO48 tyres.

It probably varies for different types of tyre a little.

Best to consult the "technical dept of whatever tyre Make you are going to buy and get the official version.

Dont listen to a "salesman"

Having a less than optimum combination may not be a fatal mistake but it may compromise your handling/grip.

My interest in this stems from maximising the contact patch for use on the drag strip where traction is critical.

Road use by many on here may not be that critical as other considerations like cost etc come in to play.

All of course IMHO.
