Speed Bumps

I have to go very slow over speed bumps due to pipes under my car. Is this normal. I dont know if my car has ben lowered, What should the height be and where do I measure it from. I suspect it has, and the only reason I have for this is I was looking at my power antenna and the rear speakers and the foam that covers the rear shocks has ben cut. Should I be able to see my stainless steel pipes when I look under my car. they seem to hang down a bit low. Thanks guys

...and don't do what I used to do - straddle the bump between the wheels of the car.

Made my wheels egg shaped.

Doh

are they standard exhausts on it Konrad?

I've got a twin big bore system with standard shocks and have to put the drivers wheel on the bump to raise one side only, if I dont it grounds out on the small centre boxes just behind the cats.....annoying!

BacE, No the exhaust are Megaphones. The pipes under the car are satainless steel. I dont know what make they are. How do I tell if its been lowered.

Scottwil What I do is place the middle of my care between the bumps. The paranoia is catching though.

yup. thats what i do. Or one wheel in the middle the other over one of the bumps

Alloys have no support on the inner edge - go over a speed bump- the style that are just a big concrete blancmange - with the bump directly under yer car - the inner edges of the wheels climb the angle on the bump - the outer edge is on thin air.

All the weight of the car is pushing on the inner edge of the wheel - mine ended up getting warped. This was a few years ago in a Celica. Since then, i have gone over them very slow or get both wheels square with the crown of the blancmange - but that means you have to go in the middle of the road.

ps - the wheels which were egged looked perfect on the outside.

When removed, it was dead obvious the inner edges were egged - just looking at them it was obvious

Nice one. Thats what i do. Pisses people off, but not as much as the speed bumps themselfs i suppose. Cheap-ass lazy method of traffic calming! They were dumped all over my estate recently. Hasnt been a single accident in the 19 years i have lived here, and there is very rarely anyone driving like a dick. So what was the point? Fook knows!

Yesterday I went down a street filled with them and had a queue behind me. I am sure I was called a lot of flattering names. lol

The queue is the council's fault, not yours.

...and the speed bumps are actually doing their job of slowing the traffic down.

pish innit?

We've just had bumps put in our estate - on a hill.

Who the feck thought THAT was a good idea?

B4 - going down the hill, foot on the brake - kid steps out, high on glue, reaction time is a nanosecond, yer foot's already on the anchor switch.

NOW - over the bump, speed up to next one, same snot-nose dribbles her carsass across MY road - reaction time vastly increased cos my foot is on the warp-factor pedal.

Which is safer?

Only thing that works, worldwide is islands in the middle of the road.

You THINK you are going quicker cos they are right next to you.

You slow up.

Pedestrians have somewhere to hide while you pass.

Thing that works for me is that thick-ass paint laid in strips across the road.

B-dmmpp, bdmmpp, bdmmpp.

Thats what i prefer. At least they dont destroy your car. But...speed bumps are cheaper. :xxx:
