so contacted insurer and they say i took the policy out to late and will not cover me from the time i requested :( so i will have to go to court i guess where do i stand,as i cant afford to recieve points

as im insured from that day will they be more understanding or still fine, points etc,i do alot of driving and points and my age will take an adverse effect on my policy

I have no idea if this will work Greg. I had a similar experiance quite a long time ago. I asked my Insurers to cover me and they said NO! My incident occured the day before I was insured (not the same day like yours) the problem lay in the insurers not willing to take a chance incase I had, had an accident. (i could see their point) so I took the producer from the police to them and showed them that it was just a regular pull and not anything else and they agreed as I had been with them for some time. It might work. If not then sorry mate but give it a try you never know bud. A well placed bit of grovelling can go a long way.

mate i hope things work out for you it depends on judge, because its all computerised now days the chance of back dateing is slim, however speak to your insurance,as far as points are concerned unfortunitly you will get min 6 points for no insurance and max 8 points and court costs, however speak to a solicitor for more advice and consider traders policy because you work in a garage and drive different cars so it saves you hassle of changing details if it does go to court just express your remorse ,drive for a living overlooked date/time etc, greg pm me i might be able to sort something out

Similar to how I lost my licence bud :( The system is not fair

If you're fully comp on your other car, you MIGHT be covered 3rd party - depends on your policy wording whether the car has to be owned by someone else, subject to it's own insurance etc etc - but I got away with it on a producer in a similar situation as the DVLA hadn't changed the records yet, so they couldn't prove it was my car... if you'd only just picked up the car, you'd have the added advantage of the previous owner probably still being insured on it which would help you also.

Good luck with it!

probably,knowing my luck bud

Can't really see how you can get away with this.

The way the law looks at it -

You bought a car, drove it without a valid insurance certificate in place in advance.

IF you had hit someone (they always look at the worst case scenario) where would they stand?

Obviously not standing. LOL. Just been hit by a car, but you know what I mean - they contact your insurers, no claim, blah bleat etc.

Harsh reality is - you should be legal if you go on the road - protects you and everyone else around you to a degree.

Greg, just a thought but aren't you named on Z-techs policy-i.e. traders??

Could be a way out bud! ;)

Nasty one Greg, hope you get sorted. As it was the same day it's beyond me why they won't just change the time on the policy.

Insurance companies. Licenced theives most of them. They should be sitting in the dock not you

hello,

I actually work for an insurance company (More>Than if any1 wants to know who)

With all of our policies you are covered to drive other car third party only no matter what level of cover you have!!!

Might be an idea for you to check your policy booklet for this!!!

I actually had a very similar situation once, however when i went to the station to produce docs i didn't mention anything and they didn't realise that the times didn't match up,

The lasy who dealt with it just put the date on the sheet she fills in!!!

i thought even though you are covered to drive other cars the car you are driving must have insurance. i was told this from my old insurance company is this correct.

stewiedoom1.gif

well yes,

the exclusions are

the car can't be owned by yourself or your other half (partner as well now)

It must be insured at least third party only elsewhere (by the owner)

The driving other cars extension is only available for policy holders over the age of 25!

However having said that if the exclusion is not in the paperwork (policy booklet) then you can always say you didn't know and that the company who your insured with hasn't said that in their documentation.

I know the last time i read our policy booklet it didn't say!

Also if they are 24 on the start of this years insurance and then turn 25 during the year they won't be able to use it until after the next renewal!

Hope that made sense, if not ill ty to explain it better. i would definately recomend reading the policy documents.

Who did you buy it off? Friend, family or stranger? Did they still have fully comp insurance for it because if they did you may well be able to produce their insurance if they gave you permission to drive.

There's not that many insurance policies that cover other people to drive your car unless its an any drivers policy maybe,

definately worth a look though mate
