I was driving the wifes Vectra yesterday when the wierdest thing started to happen.

When the revs hit about 3000 ( on acceleration ONLY ) the car starts whistling LOUDLY and then stops as you go over 3000.

It doesn't whistle when just reving the car, but theres a loud induction/suction sound coming from underneath.

any ideas, i can't find where the whistling is comin from due to it only doin it

whilst accelerating.

maybe you ran over a lollipop lady at some time and she is blowing her whistle for you to slow down lol

maybe have something to do with the vaccum things that blow air into your cats, similar things happen with omegas but only when they start up

Had the same thing with my 2.5 V6 GSI turned out to be the two flexible rubber couplings between the air box, the air flow meter and the the throttle housing had splits in them, Vauxhall part only cost around £12 the two.

Sounds like you have a leak on the intake somewhere, resonance box maybe? When I had just the air filter on the fiesta, it got really loud between 2750 - 3250 rpm and again at 5750-6250 rpm, i think engines intake is a certain frequency then and its a louder sound because of resonant frequencies of the air intake material. The resonance box prevents this, hence why you normally hear no difference, so maybe that is dislodged?

Well finally got round to taking the vectra to a garage, turns out

the cat has collapsed and blocked. Noise is comin from exhaust fumes escapin

from the flexi mesh part of the cat :( £180 to replace :headvswal :headvswal

Bummer :( Can you not get a cat from a breakers yard?

my vectra has started making a shity ticking noise, but i think i have traced it to the exhaust manifold gasket, i have tried a few sites, anyone know where i can get one from?

Are you sure its not the the manifold itself? They're very susceptable to cracking as I found out to my cost (£200 at the main dealer to sort :headvswal ). Apparently Vauxhall made them out of plasticine rather than metal...
