Does anyone know if its possible to modify the doors so they open via a button under the wing mirror on a 300zx? ive only seen this on tvr's and on 1 punto. Anyone know of any companies that do it? The picture below shows the button on the wing mirror of a punto.

Yes mate any good bodyshop should be able to sort you out, i think luke at zcentre has the samething, i spoke to lambotek they specialize in custom body work/lambo doors, they quoted me £1000 to insert (poppers solinoid ) thats wot there called iirc in both doors so if i had lambo door for eg, i could press alarm remote and doors would automaticly open, but fitting normal solinoid will be cheaper.

anything its possible

LOL getting into a tvr isnt such a problem, its the getting out again I had a problem with!

See if you can PM "Friday" as he has this fitted to his Zed. He de-handled the car and needed another way of opening the doors - I think the button is on the baseplate of the mirrors. Also, if you go down this route, remember to build in an additional pair of power leads from the solenoid to an area which is easily accessible. Reason being that if the car battery dies you won't be able to get into the car unless you can provide power from another battery. I think you could possibly put this access point inside the front wheelarch.

they got all the differnt door poppers here no need for buttons, i think one has the safety feature too for dead batteries

Just for the "trick" value really.

Had em on mine for a while now and you get a few strange looks when you hit the remote and the door pops open for yer ;) got push buttons under the wing mirrors as well and a hidden button in case of battery failure in the remote.

It shouldnt be hard to wire a switch into the central locking system anyway. Just find the right lead from the trigger inside the door and latch onto it the switch should be easy to locate under the mirror but what about the security issue?

Yup, as Daniel-san says (;)) I've done that particular modification. To answer Angus' question: Why? I say, Why Not? :D No, but seriously, I was going for a totally smoothed look on my car, literally everything has been done in this respect (I'm only listing the stuff relevant to the "smooth" look, I've left the rest off. Lol! ;)):

De-locked.

De-swaged.

De-badged.

De-spoilered and smoothed tailgate.

"Stone protection" smoothed in all round.

Rear wiper removed and smoothed.

Fuel filler cap removed , smoothed over and re-sited in boot.

Aerial removed and smoothed over.

Side repeaters removed and smoothed.

Washer jets removed, smoothed and re-sited.

Side skirts fitted, smoothed and blended into the bodywork.

Swage lines on 99 spec front bumper smoothed in and the main air dam widened to bring the top edge level with the top edge of the lights.

And of course "De-handled" as well (the first thing that was done) :) Solenoid "popper" buttons were fitted in both wing mirrors to open the doors.

The kit was supplied by Custom Concepts, http://www.customconcepts.co.uk. Before I started doing the work myself and before I discovered the amazing craftsman that is Steve at Bodywork Plus (in our Traders section) I took the car to QVR to get some insurance work done. While it was in they ordered the door solenoid kit (you'll need an uprated 35lb+ unit to cope with the Zed's heavy doors) and fitted it for me. Not sure exactly what the price was as it went in with the other work (and I wouldn't take my car back to QVR either...there are two lads that work there that really know their stuff but the rest seem a bit clueless and the two owners, although great to start with, lose all interest when they have your money...my car was returned with many bits I wasn't happy about...nothing major, just the result of sheer laziness  All IMO of course.)

To be honest, the buttons that they originally put on were sh1t beyond all recognition and fixed to the mounting plate (a good place to put them but not where I asked for them to be mounted  ). Thanks to Steve at Bodywork Plus, they've since been moved to underneath the new Veilside mirrors and replaced with a more quality item ;)

With no locks/handles if the battery died I would've been in schtuck so I installed an emergency battery charging point underneath the car (not to mention ditching the standard battery, upgrading it to a Deta Orbital Deep Cycle battery and resiting it in the boot! :D)

All of this info can be found in my Journal mate. Feel free to leave a comment if you want to folks, good or bad, all input is appreciated! :D :)

Leigh.

Don't get me wrong guys, not knocking it, just wondered why you would want to but I see now...

I like the smooth look...especially on my woman...(did I just say that out loud...)
