Who's had an auto to manual conversion?

And how different did it make the car feel? Having mine done next week, along with a RPS sport clutch and lightened and balanced flywheel.

Thanks

Barry

my car has had id done by redline imports, great job - who wants an auto anyway ??? :nelson:

fitted a short shift too and a pukk racing clutch - superb, definately a better driving experience than an auto box, get some BOV's then listen to them when you change gear - far better with a manual. :hyper:

Andy......

me.

i think it made the car feel more positive in that youre always in gear. i was forced into a conversion when my auto (which otherwise was perfectly alright) broke on me. i prefer the manual cos i like the control and the gear changing but i miss the auto too.

deffo a good move with the clutch and flywheel at the same time mate

Mines had a conversion...

Allthough it was already done when I bought it :D otherwise I wouldnt of bothered.

If I lived in america with straight roads and a nancy aproach to bends then I would of gone for auto...

Question....

How many auto F1 cars are there?....

or even

How many auto racing cars are their?

You get the idea.....

Although in the end its all down to personal taste and driving style ;)

some praise the auto box but ive only ever seen how weak it is when you start to tune the engine....

Thats not to say that the gear change is quicker on a manual...I would say that the auto is probably quicker on the 1/4 mile strip but I dont drive down the 1/4 mile strip everyday :smw:

Thanks guys, I do like the auto, but found myself using gear 1 and 2 alot :) Also, the car sometimes felt quick and other times extremely quick. Wasnt sure if the autobox, was holding it back in anyway, will report back next week once its done.

Yep, about 0.1 - 0.2 secs quicker on a 0-100mph sprint, but not as quick as a manual in the real world :D

Chris,

No, its being done by AndyZ's mechanic, as hes breaking his own car and fitting it all.

Ive just posted another few questions, you may be able to help with. Can you pm me price on Koyo rad please, not sure if I will have to wait till after Xmas though.

Thanks

I know, for you it didnt work out, but hoping with just over 300bhp, shouldnt be any less reliable for me. I do like the smoothness of the auto, but always felt, you were never 100% in control with an auto.

Mine was done. Made a huge difference - like being able to drive again !!!

Didn't go for the lightened flywheel (yet) though ...

Better than any slushbox FACT

If you bought a fast road slush box you would have been fine, but instead you chose half knackered second hand ones and you also abuse it when you go to the pod  Just think of how many clutches you would have munched;)

LOL, fast road slushbox's are lots of cash and doing a small 2 sec burnout at the pod really shouldnt harm a box that much as i only do about 4 runs a month at most.

If kept to the autobox then yes, id like a fast road version, but id much prefer a manwell any day of the week as it suits the way i drive better.

If you hadn't bought a Granny-box to start with you wouldn't have to convert it! ;) :x:

Well im happy with my Auto, im on my 3rd but this is the ex-MAC ex Baggins Fast Road one so im now happy.

why would anyone actually *want* a transmission that saps more power?!?!?

bit like driving with your brakes binding to try to get the brakes to work quicker!!!

That would be about 25k total then ;) Pretty good going for an auto
