one thing ive noticed in various mags and sites is the elevated bhp claims ,now i think we are all guilty of this in some degree and i think we should try and get a bit more real here,if for instance a certain persons car is proven on a rolling road with certain modifications and has a read out then maybe we all could use this as some form of guide lines for others  :x:

no offence, but I think you've made a mistake with the rpm there.. (not doubting the torque though :))

bhp = torque x rpm/5252.

which would have put your bhp @ 707bhp at those revs.

Bhp is always calculated by the torque figure, that's why on dyno graphs the torque and bhp line cross at 5252rpm (providing torque and bhp are using the same scale on the axis)

This applies to both rear wheel and flywheel figures

Nah...we're just waiting for Iain to say yes to joining us on our roadtrip to the Nurburgring next year! :D

What road trip?

What road trip?

John and I have just been talking about taking a trip over to the Ring once our V8's are in, nothing major, just for the craic! Mentioned it to Mark(zx) a while back when we were over his way at Leons (Alunox) getting some work done and he seemed interested and when Eric (Lymon) came over to mine a couple of weeks ago, we were talking about it and he said he'd also be up for it. John asked Iain before if he fancied a bit of a race round the Ring but he didn't take him up on it the first time (see http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=56038 all in good fun though!:)), but it looks like the challenge might've been accepted now! :D We're not into organising a huge club outing but if people want to come along I don't see there being any harm, the more the merrier, right? ;)

Leigh.

I aint got a clue its all chinese to me all this psi boost and all. I am learning and finding it all interesting none the less. I was told by the bloke i got the car from that its running 400BHP at the wheels? I got into deep 5hit on the day I posted that info. So I aint going there again. I want to put it on a rolling road soon to see the real figures. I have learned though. That the equipment it has got (the ECU and other after market bits and bobs) are produced by IMPUL who seem to be a japanese racing company that normally upgrade Skylines. We will see......................

I wont be dissapointed if the outcome is a low BHP coz at the end of the day I am very happy with the car as it is. :D

So far with my Z Tech thingy I managed a respectable 0-60 in 4.7 secs.

Not me Jaffa ,that is EXACTLY what it says on the slip

Shame he did not accept mine though :D ;)

quote: Wheels the bhp was 504.4,but there is plenty more to be had once I stick the twin fuel pumps on.

if you dont mind saying mac 1 how much would you say it would cost to get a zed to your power or close as and how fast is your zed 0-60 and your top speed am i right in guessing your zed is one of/or the fastest on this site

Well the engine, clutch.gearbox, turbos, manifolds, injectors, engine managment, and all the fabrication work was close to 25k.

0-60 and top speed I have no idea as I have not measured it yet.

Fastest on this site,to date yes how ever there is a few big builds going on as we speak so for how long I will hold the title only time will tell LOL

I have at least another 100bhp once the fuel pumps are fitted and another 100+ on the top of that when we run her on race fuel.

At the end of the day you all seem to be very misguided and are arguing about a "max power magazine" statistic that essentially means **** all anyway. Some one earlier said about his must be 1600hp if some one elses was 400hp because he left him standing, so this was done in equalish weighted cars, same suspension setup, same wheel size, same tyres, same gear ratios, final drive and more importantly driver skill? Also a hp figure without the torque figure really means nothing, and a high hp spike with relativly low hp across the range will also drive like a bag of shit, same if it has low or "peaky" torque figures.

Just a thought really, unless max powers way is the way to compare cars and the way they drive?

mac just doing the sums on your bhp we had 504 at the moment plus 100 for twin fuel pumps plus another 100 for race fuel ffs 704bhp

always good to know your figures, as each mod that is done. you can see the percentage increase. but I think that if you put car X on ten differant rolling roads, you would not get two figures the same. One good thing about people display their bhp figure and the problems they hit at certain ranges is it allows others to avoid upcomming costly problems.

who the hell said anything about maxpower matey

you've just repeated what this thread is all about, misunderstood an earlier joke and criticised people. Good going ;)

.

LOL true

At the end of the day you all seem to be very misguided and are arguing about a "max power magazine"

As Jason just pointed out no mention of that mag any where in the thread so not sure what you are on about:confused:

Some one earlier said about his must be 1600hp if some one elses was 400hp because he left him standing,

That was me now I dont have 1600bhp however he was meant to have 400 and me only 100 more,The way my car pulled away from him proved that this was total *****cks,

He was almost out of sight in my mirror after about 20 seconds.

so this was done in equalish weighted cars, same suspension setup, same wheel size, same tyres, same gear ratios, final drive and more importantly driver skill?

None of the above even come into this as this was done at 70mph on a massive straight in 4th gear, however the above points are valid if we were on a track etc.

For the record though

same wheel size, tyre size, gear ratios and final drive,my car probably weighed more as I was driving it

Just a thought really, unless max powers way is the way to compare cars and the way they drive?

Dont read it

Fook all wrong with Max Power roll dont be a sheep bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Shame he did not accept mine though :D ;)

Hope you ain't saying that TOTB is more of a challenge than the Ring mate! ;) As you already know straight line drags aren't Johns thing (or mine for that matter ;)) and the only other event is the slalom is that right? (I confess to not knowing that much about TOTB! :D). You'd get a chance to blast it on the straights and hurl it round the twisties at the Ring! Better than dodging a load of cones in an airfield IMO mate! It would be very cool: your jaw dropping, turbo'd VG vs a N/A V8 VH, the best engine Nissan ever made as PeterR called it...;)

i can tell you know the mags are the ones making up the power cliams !!!

when i did my photo shoot for jap performance i said to he guy ist maybe running around 375 bhp and hopfully running 400bhp with all the new mods that have just been fitted now tizer has it  and he said to me 400bhp sounds better to put down in the mag  but i told him with the mods on now it wont be near that power so he was going to put 375bhp

arseholls and i never got a free mag :xxx:

Hope you ain't saying that TOTB is more of a challenge than the Ring mate! ;)

That all depends on what you mean by challenge LOL.

Breaking the 200mph barrier is one hell of a challenge ask Rocket Ronnie;)

I am not interested in what your thing is, I built mine for a reason and that reason was TOTB.

Now if I accept your challenge surely you would be a Gentleman to accept mine? :D Dont worry though I will borrow a stock TT to see you off  ;)

The Ring is definately my idea of a challenge matey! ;) But hey, horses for courses. Our cars aren't straight line monsters built for pushing the upper speed limits, they're not designed for that but as you say yours would be "awesome" round the Ring it seemed like it could be something fun for the two big power lads (plus us more modest men ;)) to enjoy. Anyway, twas just a thought! :)

Right, I'm off to bed! Lol! :D

I'm up for the road trip so long as I have a car with an engine in working order. May have a V8 Z and not a Noble. We'll see how yours and Johns go and time factors.

you've just repeated what this thread is all about, misunderstood an earlier joke and criticised people. Good going ;)

Well I just read like the first post and the first page of replies and skimmed the rest and thats what appeared to be happeneing, people that know not alot arguing about "max power" figures and comparing their cars and others based on this. Sorry if I repeated something in the later pages.

Oh and for those that said "we're not talking about max power magazine" in my eyes you are. Sit and talk about "bhp" figures all you want, it means nothing. Put your car round nurburg ring, give us a time, put your car down the strip, give us 1/4 mile times, 0-60 times, top speeds reached. Then a "fairer" and more realistic comparision can be made between cars instead of "max power magazine" comparisons.

Just my two pence, but then I'm into engine performance and things alot more than most people, as I'm sure alot of people on here could tell me anything I wanted to know about the different models of 300zx and differences between them down the the different strengthening gussets used as an update to a previous model, but I find its engines "everyone" knows "everything" about.

Breaking the 200mph barrier is one hell of a challenge ask Rocket Ronnie;)

Hell yeah, just kinda futile and totally pointless IMO. You'll destroy me at that as I think mine's only going to be geared to do 140-150. Will get there quick though :D
