My car has been running fine since i have had it. The tickover has been excellent and sounded fantastic but this morning on the way to work the engine started to judder. The rev counter while stationary which usualy sits at about 750/800rpm was dropping to 500(and lower) then up to 1000 and back again. this then changed to drop lower eventually making the car stall.

 

Now the car is running fine from cold but when it warms up to normal running temperature it starts again.

 

I can drive if i brake with my left foot and keep the revs up but gradually as i drive the car looses power and i need to switch it all off and wait for it to cool down. It then works ok for a bit longer.

 

I took it to nissan this afternoon to investigate the problem. The compter said the problem was the NOK sensor but the mechanic said it is unlikely to be the sensor due to the symptoms and refered me to a specialist garage.

 

I've booked the car in with a specialist sports garage but thats a week tomorrow.

 

 

does anyone have any ideas.

BTW the car is a uk Auto Twin Turbo with 96k on the clock the last service was done 1 year ago

when my det sensor brought up a code it, idled slow, never had problems with stalling tho. if the 'computer' nissan used was a consult then, chances are its right enough and does need a de sensor (code 34)

It idles quite eratically, seems to get worse as the car warms up. Im not sure what system Nissan used to check the code.

typical PTU failure once the PTU gets hot and if its failing it weakens the spark make the car run lumpy,missfire-you need to get another known working PTU to plug in and see if that helps,im sure someone on here can lend you one,you can buy an upgraded series 2 PTU which has better cooling properties and will last longer ;)

and what's the specialist garage? Just in case they don't know 300zx's.

where can i get a series 2 ptu guys mine does the same sort of thing it idles eratically when warm betwwem 600-750rpm then goes up to 900 and so on it is also lumpy on tickover i reckon what you guys suggested is the probable fault ? oh how much are they ?

Just drove home, it was an experiance. I'll be glad when it's all working again.

 

the garage is not specifically nissans it deals with all high performance cars.

They have been recomended by a few people up here.

I ran the engine idle for 20 mins, drove for 20 mins and then sat idle for 20 mins.... all working perfectly...

I'm not sure what it is now.

I think it might be related to the rain. Im sure i'll find out tomorrow if it rain related.

if for any reason the PTU doesnt help,could pop down to z tech nr swindon

fair old journey but atleast you know your car will be looked over properly,we can perform consults FOC aswell

Ha you lot ain't heard nothing then!!! 8 hours after i bought my z from daaaannnnn saaafffff (!) i took it to nissan for a diagnostic. £45 later i had a free water feature an extra 13 and a half miles on my clock and two blown heads. Count yourselves lucky :o)
