just a quick one

i found these two bolts loose in my bay, on the passenger side.

they go through the balance bar. will this cause a problem as the bar isnt tight to the engine block.

there is nothing coming out of there and the other bolt is tight , just wondering if this is a problem?

im going to put a .5 mm bigger set of bolts in there to replace the old ones as the thread in the hole wont take it anymore, so i may need to tap new threads and fit new bolts.

should i do this straight away or is it not an immediate problem?

what flows through the bar anything?? fluid, fuel, oil????

i will get right on it tomorrow then get new bolts in there and tightened, is there a seal gasket of any sort under it?

air. It's the balance bar to equal the air pressure between both sides of the plenum.

There is a large o-ring rubber seal

i better get that sorted then tomorrow i guess..

if theres a vacum leak what problems arise?? what usually happens?

no problems with the car running just being cautious

yep make sure get them tightened bud air leaks not good on performance

be careful when tightening them as its aluminium and doing it to tight strips the threads, surprising how many zs have this problem

yep thats whats wrong with this, tightened too much, i have to tap new threads for new bolts by the looks of it.. that or try a .5mm larger bolt.

Hi pk1, I have the same problem, if I tighten the bolt it "spins" past the stoping point. I don't have any leaks as I can tighten it to the point just before it spins but would apreciate knowing if you fix your problem then I can sort it out on mine.

Cheers.

greg, what sort of torque should i use settings wise?

could try using a slightly longer bolt with a washer and pack out the bolt with washers until the desired amount of pressure is needed

not to much as you can see it strips the alli easily so as much as needed so theres no leaks is sufficiant

seem to have same problem, would it be ok to use some kind of sealant aslong as dont get any in plenium.

if its that bad then yeh a bit of clear instant gasket is good, not to much though as you dont want that clogging up the plenum just smear a bit around it

Hmmm, seems to be a common problem..........group buy on a helicoil kit seems in order.....M8x1.25mm :D

dont helicoil, just tap it bigger. what size are the original ones 6mm? just tap them out to 8 and largen the holes in the flange. helicoils suck anyway, they always come out when you unscrew them

A helicoil is fine if it's fitted correctly........IIRC would need to tap out to 10mm as already 8mm and I don't think there is enough material to go over size.

Recoil kits are designed not to come out without a fight.

So to me that is more of an application issue, I cannot say I've ever had a problem with them backing out,I still don't think the plenum would stand a 10mm bolt( I may be wrong of coarse) other than helicoiling the only other fix I would consider would be to Locktite a stud in and use a nut .

right bearing in mind my knowlage of cars is crap i need more help..

i spent theother day tightening every damn pipe i could find with a screw clip on under my hood, reason, petrol smell in car, very strong smell..

went out int he car later.. no smell.. go in this morning drove off.. no smell, 5 mins later stinks of petrol again.., now bearing in mind im a fkn big git, icant fit under the hood and get to everything, but i tightened all the damn pipes and the ones under the center plasic cover.

there is also a pipe under the throttle section that i tightened, so im fkn lost... any ideas, before i try the naked flame trick!!

i have checked everything i can.. and im lost..it has to be found before i got to ztech.. not driving all the waythere only to catch fire half way down!

could this balance bar be the problem?? will the fuel small come from that?

it could be possible mate i would also check the small pipes under the pressure regulators (one on inlet one on fuel return) only small pipes but never get replaced mine were both cloth covered pipe and were seeping fuel could be whats up with yours, could have a quick look at it for you when i bring that pc down

it shouldnt, but u might get some crank case fumes coming out, altough at idle it should be pulling a vacuum so nothing would be able to get out anyway, perhaps its the orings on the top of the injectors, because the engine bay is so hot, the fuel evaporates that quick you can never find the leak. have you actually checked the condition of the hoses themselves rather than just the fittngs?

...you got to get rid of that animation of the guy on the computer - I cant follow the thread...
