UK & Jap ECU's same?

Featured Replies

Chris i dont know much about ECUs but i wonder how jap cars are restricted top speed wise(ie 112mph),if its the same as German cars it could be in the ECU.I had my Z diff blow on my UK car lasy month and replaced it with a jap spec one expecting it to be the same and the ratio was different evern though both cars were the same TT autos exsept one was UK and one Jap.Its worth thinking about mate.Chas

Hi Chris,

Although I wont profess to be very knowledgeable on ECU's I do know the following. Jap-spec ECU's have their fuel maps setup differently mainly because the fuel in Japan is of a higher octane level than here in the UK. Also, certain restrictors, like for speed etc, are build into the J-spec ECU.

For that reason I would be carefull about switching a UK spec ECU for a Jap spec ECU.

Not the most definitive of answers but it's what I know. Hope it helps somewhat.

Cheers mate,

Danny

The top speed is set in the ECU ROM.

With a replacement chip and boost upgrade an auto can reach around 190mph. Which is nice!

There may be some terminology confusion here. I believe the ECU's are the same. However, the maps, which live on the EPROM (like a JWT etc) will be different.

I understand that you can run a manual car on an auto map but not vice versa. I expect to prove this in a couple of weeks when my car gets converted to manual.

Andy on the subject of maps and chips, can you tel Chris how the SE chip compared with the JWT.

You can guess which is which ! Wish they had run both to 7000rpm though ...

Seem to have lost my torque graph. (Bugger!)

Well compared to that graph maybee they should change the name to Jim Mouse biggrin.gif.

yeh - and I think its another thread about to head off-topic again!

Back to the graph. i ran JWT for 2 yrs and now run an SE Chip. I'd say the chart is just telling me what I know already. SE's Chip rocks!

Did you take your foot off coming up to 6000 rpm? LOL

Seriously though, (Don't ask me how I know!) but the SE chip seriously does kick out more power.

I was very impressed by the JWT chip but the SE one is different again... biggrin.gif

If that chart is right what are the crappy Nissan OEM jobs like?

I thought a standard Z pushed out 280 - 300bhp?

My JWT chip made a massive difference when fitted...

I could understand it if the bottom line was a stock chip.

Chris fit an SE chip and see your motor kick ass big time wink.gif.But remember to fit an eject seat and parachute,as you will need it wink.gif.

Who are good suppliers of SE Chips?

MJ

Erm, you could try SE for one of those wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

Just to let you know that the SE chip is custom mapped for your own individual car. eg intake, exhaust, turbo etc. That is the reason on such big power gains compared to other chips. wink.gif.
