Fitted a 2nd hand engine, which i have no doubt is a good one, but im having a few problems

 

idle, is irriatic, either cuts out, or sits at 1500

 

it seems to be dropping a cylinder as and when it wants, i cant find any trigger to when it goes, but certainly, from cold she is a complete bitch

 

im getting black smoke, which i believe is fuel?

im also getting a loud whistle type noise when she is cold, and only when in boost

 

 

to say ive had about enough of this car is now an under statement

Sounds like a mashhooooooooooooooove boost leak to me!!

 

Check you main pipework aroung the intercoolers first! If thats OK, try and get a boost leak detector on there bud!!

deffo sounds like a air leak of some sort, can you take it back to where u got the engine fitted and get them to check it over ??

you really shouldn't be boosting till she's warmed up.

 

But, yes does sound like a boost leak, and maybe a dodgy coilpack connector

So do you guys think that a boost leak would be the culprit for ALL the symptoms then ?

 

oh, and she's not getting thrashed while cold, im talking small boost, not half bar or higher....

Take it to the garage that fitted the engine, surely you have some kind of warranty and also any good garage would look at it again for free anyway.

Did you fit the engine yourself or have a garage complete the work?

Check that the AAC connector has power running to it so that the valve operates when controlled by the ecu

Likely to be a wiring harness problem. Check the injector clips and coil pack connectors and also the condition of the spark plugs.

The black smoke is probably a result of the cylinder that isn't firing properly. The whistle could be a boost leak or the turbo's off balance! Did the turbo's come with the engine or are they from your old car?

Try an ecu diagnostic to see if there are any errors logged. The ecu will only calculate the output information based on the info it recieves from all the sensors.

 

Stick with it, if you gone to the effort of fitting another engine then you've done the hard part.

just tried the ecu, it shows 55 no faults?

 

is this good news or not?

Good news in some ways bud!-the ecu only picks up sensor readings(if you know what I mean)-the connectors to them could still be pants!

I still got a gut feeling you have a BIG leak somewhere! ;)
