ECU loom question

I'm trying to pull the spur of loom that goes to the ECU out into the engine bay.. and I'll be buggered if I can get it to budge - I've pulled with all my might.. yanked.. sworn.. and thought about cutting the loom.. and I still can't get the ECU cable to budge into the engine bay..

There isn't a bolt/clip up behind the dash is there? Please tell me there isn't...

Not to worry - I sliced it in half and it came out easy enough.. god knows how I'm going to get the new one in mind you...

It's amazing how much easier it is to work in the engine bay when there's no loom to have to push out of the way (in the last pic)

:)

I assume that you already removed the plastic cover from the ECU-connector.

You have to turn it around 180 degr., to be able to pull it out in one piece.

You will need to put the new one in in the same way.

You can also try to pry on the metal plate behind the hole in the fire wall.

Good luck!

Maciej

Thanks for the tip Maciej - I was wondering how I was going to get the new loom through that hole! I resorted to hacking the old loom in half at the bulkhead to get the old one out (pull the connector into the car, and the loom out of the car), since the old loom was.. well.. crispy!

And thanks for the compliment Glen smile.gif Lets just hope it runs hey! smile.gif

Az,

I know that you are a one man Nelson genius fella, but if you do get stuck you can always ring Dave at SE who did mine for some friendly advice.

Just a thought mate.

Yeah Timmy but he wants to wire it to his engine in the FRONT biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Once Pete had put your harness through to the rear of your car how much did he charge you to have the engine moved backwards so it would fit??? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Almost done on the loom now - although I still need to cram that connector through the hole somehow.. It certainly is a tight squeeze!

Gave up for the day because it's cold, windy, and pissing down with rain outside.. Oh and my back is killing me from three days of bending/crouching/kneeling over the engine bay..

Still, all I need to do now is put one sides turbo inlet & outlet pipes back on, change a few remaining rubber hoses, pop the plenum on, plumb in the fuel and plug in the coilpacks & injectors.. and I'm done..

I hope.. keeping my fingers crossed the HG's are intact after it overheated (and caused all this hassle!)

Oh, if anyone wants to see a howto on the loom, then it's at http://www.mind-design.co.uk/loom_replacement.htm

When I've finally put everything back together I'll add a few more notes to it, but it's otherwise complete now.
