chewie Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Can't believe this has happened after the time and money i've put into her this year. This morning on the way to work in heavy rain I went over what i thought was a small puddle, but it turned out to be a deep hole. Two loud bangs as both passenger side wheels hit it. Got out , furious, and checked my new alloys for any damage, found some scratches but was too wet and dirty to examine further so got back in, drove 10 yards down the road, and then it got worse. Suddenly there was some very nasty noises then the whole front suspension seemed to collapse . pulled over and found the whole front of the car sitting on the wheels and the front spoiler touching the ground. Called a recovery vehicle to remove it and take it to nissan. 180 quid recovery charge later i'm on the phone to the co. council trying to remain calm as they explain the painfully slow procedure involved making a claim. I won't have the assesment from nissan till monday, but it's going to be big. I've just had shocks , cambers and new track rod ends sorted last week and a full wheel alignment and tracking done 4 days ago. So here I am zedless for the near future, and the money I was going to spend on goodies is going on repairs, 'til I get a claim up and running    Quote
Guest AngusGlover Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 So so sad, after spending lots of money on a car it feels good to have it just the way you want it...then this happens. Hope you get the council to pay out dude... Quote
Glenn Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 That's bad luck mate, really sorry to hear about that Quote
chewie Posted October 21, 2005 Author Posted October 21, 2005 Thanks guys, there no way to explain how gutted I am. Quote
dunk300zxtt Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Take some photographs on 35mm film (digital not admissable) of the pothole before they repair it. Use a tape measure for scale. Had this happen to me in a 405 SRi around an island in birmingham, wendy was driving at the time, she hurt her back it was so fooking big. suspension was put out of line too. So we foned up to complain & they told us of the claims procedure. We thought it a good idea to take pics too, but we left it too long. IIRC they repaired it 2 days after, and we went back 3 days after. :headvswal Quote

What worries me is the car is not leaning to one side bacause of a busted shock, the whole front has dropped completely on both sides Quote
Graham S Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Holy fook Chewie! That looks nasty. Quote
Guest Scottywil Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005  ****in 'ell thats nasty!! I hope you can get a claim bud. I'm not sure, but i think for the council to pay out, the area must have been previously reported. Quote
Guest pk1 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 right you will need to do this quickly as they will try to get out of this.. get a tape measure and a level, go back to the holes, put the level across them and thenput the tape measure in, take pictures of the deapth of the hole to the base of the level, make sure hole doesnt have water in to show the tape isnt rolled at the bottom. that way you have proof of the holes existence and depth. the councils love to miraculously fill holes up overnight when claims come along. my sister had the same thing happen and they filled the hole up and said it had been earlier that year, she got nothing. get pics measure the whole thing up and then you have all the proof you need. Guest pk1 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 sorry didnt see above refs to my suggestion, but a level and tape measure are classed as legal forms of measurement and road surface level. Quote

Cheers PK, the weather was still nasty on the way home, hole still full of water, but will head out in the morning and do just that. Quote

Good point PK1. It's staggering how quickly they can fill a hole if they think they're about to get sued!!! Fookers!! Quote

chewie Posted October 21, 2005 Author Posted October 21, 2005 wtf if the damage was caused by the pothole why has the whole car dropped at the front  gaz I spoke to Mike feeney today to ask the same question, and he reckon's there are a number of different things, but the fact that it's not just tilting to the one side is worrying. He mentioned the possibility of chassis damage, but it's impossible to tell until it goes up on a ramp. Oh, I forgot to mention the front bumper is shagged from the recovery vehicle pulling it onto the truck. wasn't the guys fault, we needed to get it on as quickly as possible as it was on a dangerous stretch of road. Meanwhile, nissan told me they have no mechanic familiar with a 300zx, so even assessing the damage is going to be slow. I wouldn't have had it brought there , but I think it's the best thing regarding the claim Quote
