Computer Pros, please help. This is driving me mad!

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down." :headvswal

I get the above message all the time. I have done countless Spyware and Virus scans but nothing seems to help.

I was told to install Advanced Browser as its supposed to be more stable but It gets closed down in the same way.

Can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening and how to fix it.

I don't really want to have to back up all my MP3's etc and then wipe the hard drive and start again if I can help it.

Cheers,

Justin:)

Try visiting Windowsupdate.com and applying all the patches.

or install Firefox.

or install Firefox.

Exactly what I was going to say - it really is miles better now they've completely ironed out the bugs...

depends what you have on your computer. have you got Kazaa installed or any shareware progs installed? if so this can cause dll errors and cause conflictions in other progs.what antivirus progs have you installed?

and have you tried to switch your machine off at the mains and leave it off for 2 mins and reboot. it will remedy the problem for a day or so but you ideakky need to format your pc and themaster boot record and start afresh. this time use and antivirus prog ideally mcaffe. let me no how u get on.

Cheers fot the replies so far guys.

Rebel, I have only gor Limewire installed> I am using F-Secure anti Virus at the mo although untill the free updates ran out I was using Mcafee and the problem was going on then too! I am also using Ad-aware SE Personal and Spybot anti spyware Programs.

for spyware checks only use these two. as the companies work together. ad-aware and xoftspy. xoftspy will find thing nothing else can trust me, i bet if you download the trail version which works fully it will find loads.

also get a free trial of webroots window washer to clean your cache, and temp internet folders out completely.

get them from these sites.

xoftspy

window washer

who needs IE anyway???

If you have no current AV (you should be shot!) and don't want to pay for one, then use AVG, available from http://www.grisoft.com

They've made it a litle more difficult to find the free version recently, but it is still there.

avg sux.. so does norton and mcaffee..

i only use kaspersky pro suite.

new viruses bypass the startup checks made by most antivirus checkers and render them useless, however kaspersky is the first to load up and checks the call scrips from initialisation. updates everyhour and is a free 1month trial of the full suite.

even msoft recommend it to their engineers now, i should know i got the memo from them also, as im a gold standard certified service agent

well i have just downloaded firefox so i will see how it performs

I think firefox is very over rated.

People think its the most secure thing in the world when it isnt, it has lots of holes in it, and more will be found as more people use it.

Its speed is good but again nothing special.

Alot of the plug ins dont work with it, Im sick of gonig to a site and some plug in not working so I have to the load up IE to view what it was.

In my experience it usually means there are other underlying problems with the computer.

I'm totally on your side about that, I keep saying this to people who talk about FF. Myself I haven't ever installed it on a compuer of mine, there is noting wrong with IE as long as you know what sites you visit.

well ive been using mcaffe for a while about a year and ive had no probs. back up all your folders onto a cd rom using a zip software if youre in need of space and the format the bugger and the MBR also. re-install the operating system you want i would personally recommend win 2k pro edition the install the antivirus software wqhilst the computer in blank this will ensure all following softwares are virus checked. then install the internet software and download the upgrades that are available to fully safeguard against the latest viruses and try and avoid these shitty kazaa and other sites. better than pissing around with trying to eliminate the bugs. ideally you should format yoiur pc at least once a year or twice depending on activity.. nothing worse than faffing around with a slow processor cos the dump system is overloaded or so on so forth. consider it seems to be the best option. ;)
