dont wanna piss anyone off with this but its like the tailgate tub at the z centre but with a removable canvas window ect

is it really that hard to explain

the pic is a quick drawing paul come on mate :(

LOL!! seriously mate - i dont think anyone is pissed off!! - do you know Nelson??? --> :nelson:

sorry but this is funny - keep it going

i really am not sure what your trying to achieve?!!??!

ok not good at speed psp but here goes

the window at the back can be removed for that full convertable feel

but still retaining the targas so no need to cut and shut

Just to give you some idea of cost bud, :x: i looked at converting a Ford Probe :x: I know but it was a good car at the time ;)

Did a lot of research for a few months and the total price came too...........£11k

A lot of work as said before would have been in the strengthening of the chassis, Brakes for the increased wieght of the car. For the price you would have to pay to do a Zed i would say you could buy 2 convertable Zeds.....;)

HTH.....

but what i am proposing just requires the removal of the tailgate NO cutting or strenghening required.

pic 1 real cabrio

pic 2 what im proposing i added the side windows cos thats whats left on a swb when tailgate removed

pic1 still with the t bar roof and glass panels no need to cut and shut the back canvas window can be removed when removing targas to give a full convertible feel.

all the cost involved is to fabricate a fibreglass copy of pic ones rear

and fabrication of rear screen

:D Good on ya fella for the idea  have a word with Luke to see if any of this can be done to one of his Tail gate tubs...;)

Good luck bud think you going to need it and a few :duffer:'S

Hope Mrs T Pot dont see this ;)

The sill structure of a T-bar will be completely different to the convertible.

The sill of a convertible is where it gets all it's strength and stiffness from.

eg. Micra sill steel thickness is about 1mm thick. The Micra C+C has a sill steel thickness of 2.3mm.

Standard A pillar will be completely different to the Z convertible A pillar.

Convertible A pillar will be significantly strengthened with very thick steel tubing running up its full length, from sill to top of roof.

ok for the last time where in my idea is there strength lost? im only removing the tailgate nothing else

So, you don't want to convert a SWB to convertible.

You just want to swap the tailgate for a boot lid.

sort of did you have a look at the silver z pics bud thats the only real way to explain it its like the tailgate tub but instead of a solid vert window it can be canvas removable so theoretically its a convertable when the targas and canvas rear window removed. if that make sense

sorry to go on :(

I reckon, if it was a true professional conversion, it might have a chance of looking half decent. However, if it was done on a budget or any corners were cut, I reckon it would be :hurl: :hurl: :hurl:

I think you are getting there now, I kind of understand, personally wouldnt do all that but like others have said, its good to see someone thinking about doing something different.

Maybe you should edit your inital post at the head of the thread Gaz, kinda gives people the idea that you want to hack up your lovely zed and loose the chassis rigidity. :)

  the quickest and most dodgy psp i have done so far :D

I actually don't mind them. The 16v is a bit of a waste of space, but the Duratec 24v isn't a bad motor. Quite like the Cougar.

I've had loads of Vauxhalls, so I'm one who shouldn't be sneering!!

The Engine in the Probe is off a Mazda 626 fella, not a ford engine....;););)

But do know what you mean....

I always thought the Mazda used the Ford engine. The entire car is based on the MX-6...or vice-versa
