Well, im guessing here, but i would say no, it aint possible. (for less than £kablillion)

LOL! i would think it was a bit more involved than just removing the tailgate & fitting a convertable roof!! unless you was thinking of making up a frame with a bit of tarpuling on it!! :D

HUUUUGE amount of work methinks!

LOL!! give it up!! :D

What he said!!

Anything is possible, but for what it would cost you could buy a convertible and bung loads and loads of mods on it, even probably make it a TT. So yeah, give it up :D :D

ok i will stick to the other crap thats posted on here then!!

its a thought ,an idea and something relevent to the z to talk about rather what hand you wipe your arse with

what i was trying to get at is

the rear boot area on the z is pratically the same .

a fibreglass version could be made up and hinged in the same place as the convertible to give the boot.

the second panel which flips up to hide the lowered hood could also be made of fibreglass.

the rag top would obviously have to be professionally made (costly)

the t bar section could be kept wouldn't look that much different any how

the only real issue is the rear quater window.

if we all gave up at the first hurdle none of our cars would be modified past an airfilter.

i don't actully like the look of the ragtop with its top up! but for the summer if someone had a garage to keep it in over night a fabricated panel to replace the tailgage to possibly simulate the idea of a full convertable is my line of thought

Gonna be stupid work I'm afraid bud and a real waste of time if I'm honest. As has been said, it's more than just chopping the roof off.

You have extra chassis strengthening, which simply cannot be added unless you have some really really major cut and shut work done to it.

It would just cost thousands and thousands and you'd loose the strength you once had in the shell.

Chopping the roof off loses serious structrual strength, your talking major Chassis alterations and strenghthning.

what chassis cutting  none involved as i said before the tailgate tub sold at the z centre replaces the original tailgate, and you could leave the t bar for the targas in.

what im saying is a fibreglass cover the same shape as the ragtops! for the summer to replace the tailgate.

right - look at the 2 pictures - see the bar between the 2 T tops - your gonna have to chop that out! also the roll bar on the convertable is a lot different than the panelwork on a targa top.

chop that lot out & your car will bend in half!

Convertables are built from the chassis up! the strength to hold the body rigid is in the floorpan/chassis.

tell you what - try it & let us know how you get on!! ;) :smw:

No. when you remove a roof, regardless of what you bolted to the back, it will not return the longditudonal strength lost by taking the roof off.

Which is why, if you take apart a cabrio zed, you'll more than likely find a small bulked seperating the boot from the passenger cell and loads of floor strengthening.

A fibreglass top is gonna off no chassis strength what so ever.

   @ that pic!!

Soz Gaz, I'm sure it's possable, but that looks more like a 300BHP pick up :)

Arrrrrr roite, I see what you want to do. Why on earth didn't you just say you wanted a tailgate from a cabrio!!
