No disrespect to the guy I bought the zed from, but I went to get the driver's seat fitted and the bloke I spoke to (locally respected for preparing rally cars) said the exsisting passenger's seat was dangerously fitted.
Basically, I have these Recaro style seats, but no mounting rail or anything, just the original rails. The passenger seat has been welded/attached to the Nissan original rails. What should I do to get them fitted safely? Do I need to get some kind of hardware from the seat manufacturer, or is it going to be better in the long run to refit re-trimmed standard seats? I like the bucket seats and harnesess though and hoped to keep them. I was told the way the passenger's seat was fitted just wasn't safe, and the only way he could see to do it would be weld a frame to the floor/rails and weld something to the seat - one way or the other he said he was unwilling to do it as he could be held responsible if I ever had an accident. OK, maybe he just didn't want a crap awkward job, but I would like it sorted out. I just don't know how.
The second problem is fixing the harnesses. I was told they should NOT come up from the bottom of the seat but need to be fixed with not more than a 15% angle from the mounting point. Do I need to have a bar or roll-cage fitted? Once again, is the easiest thing to refit standard belts.
I really don't know what to do now to get the nice seats in and be safe. I'm not up to doing this myself- can anyone offer me any advice on this,
Cheers.
