There is no point saying get me a spec. I could make you a gaming system for £3000-£5000.

You have to tell us what your budget is and what you are going to use it for and what type of games you are going to be playing on it if any.

Spot on! get your budget sorted. Then shop around for the best spec for the budget!

OK good point that one, well im not into gaming much, more music and multimedia, i copy lots of dvd's and music, budget does £300 sound too low??

£300...best stick with the Etch - a Sketch...lol

£300 should get you a 2nd hand Athlon 2600+ to 3000+ with around 256MB to 512MB ram, half decent gfx with older technology (i.e ATI 9500) around 40-80GB HDD and a 17" CRT you should get an older tech DVD-RW for that too, 4x to 8x

If the music is your 'thang' then I'd keep money seperate for a half-decent set of speakers with a sub. probs about £50

IMO :)

cheers fellas, was just looking for really a base unit i.e case, motherboard, processor, memory, and sound card any suggestions??

Dell do them also but they are cheap...and cr*p...

IMHO

Morning all

if you are just looking to build the base unit then £300 should get most of the bits you need. As your not really into gaming you don't need a great graphics card and you can always upgrade that at a later date if you ever wanted to as long as you get a decent motherboard.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk are great for build hi end systems for playing games but probabely over the top for what you are after.

http://www.komputerkrazy.com are good.

one of the cheapest i've used is http://www.ebuyer.com

go for an AMD64 if you can IMO. If you have a dvd writer then use your existing one and get a newer one at a later date.(they are only £40ish now anyway)

One last thing is try to go for branded memory as I have found that generic is usually not as stable.

Si

Do you currently have a PC? If so what do you have, and what things from it do you want to recycle?

for fook sake....

brand new 64bit tower with trimmings... £350... there ya go pm for details.

Cant argue with that then...sounds a good deal..

yea thats not the actual purchase price you gotta bid for it and then you get no operating system, speakers, key/mouse all auth'd and upgraded..

amazing what you actually get when you read it clearly.
