Lol, thought i'd follow up on jims thread with another worry of mine but been scared to ask. Last few months getting a whistling sound (seems to be coming from around the passenger side dash. so it's turbo whistling ,so what, but are they on the way out?

I've heard the exact same noise on a different z I almost bought last year and it put me off buying it. I always remember reading a review in topgear magazine in 1998 (when I was dreaming of owning a zed) called Cheap speed  (I know, even back then), and that guy quentin or whatever his name is said avoid whistling turbo's on a 300zx

could just be a leak from a hose does it do it on boost only?

see if a boost leak detector shows up anything could be a hose come loose or spit to the actuator although if this is the case then you would probably be loosing power

Yeah, it's just on boost, you could be right.

no.1 which hoses do I look at?

no.2 boost leak detector i don't have, garages and mechanics frustrating me at the moment.

I have one guy down the road who is old school ,has a pit , a good mechanic for shocks brakes and basic stuff.

The other garage are specialists but you need to book in about 3 weeks in advance for anything(and they are very expensive and love themselves)

Then there's Nissan....'nuff said
