Guys

Has anyone thought about opening their own garage up?

I'm not looking to compete with anyone or anything like that and TBH, there's no-one around my way (Well, within a 15 mile radius anyway) that offers a good garage service for the Zed/Jap cars. Luke's just outside....

Its just a thought, but I am getting so bored with IT and I love the job satusfaction you get from finish a job on a car.

I have been working on cars since I was 14 so I'd like to say I know my way around them although I dont know whether I would feel confident enough to run one on my own.......

Like I said, just a thought guys at this stage....not looking to become a millionaire from it......I just want job satisfaction and I dont get it in IT anymore......

'Kin fed up of being stressed TBH..... :(

Making your hobby into your job can destroy it as a hobby.

I've worked as a mechanic for a year and hated it (I was rubbish though!)

That said, you've gotta do what'll make you happy and lots of people change career these days.

I quite fancy IT myself - loads of cash and you get to spend all day looking at pictures of Buffy or that fit bird off Star Trek. Lol.

i have worked with engines or vehicles os some description since i left school and would not want to work in any other field of employment well maybe a body guard for kylie

I think you should do it, if it is that what you want :) But always remember to think about the economical side of it too, is there a big enough demand of engineers in your area and can you really be sure to have enough customers all the time?

Ken

What tim said! Seen so many people try to make it work:(

Tim did you know that your named in print as the "funniest bloke at emap"?

I know what you mean about hobby/job. I went into IT because as a kid/teenager I loved computers. Now I do it for a living I don't really want to touch them outside work that much any more.

I did see that! Superbike's "Bullshit Detector" gossip column is written by a good mate of mine who is the mags deputy editor (and I used to work with him).

Had to say I was chuffed though - even though it's not true!

What being the funniest or the rest? LOL

No, the rest's true. I left what some people would think is the best job in the world.

 Blimey!

Eh? How can you honestly get bored of IT???

I get paid ludicrous amounts of money for doing f\/ck all mate, daylight robbery on a massive scale! LMFAO :D

Wouldn't do anything else TBH but if you wanna take on trying to help people in the motor trade stylee then go for it mate.

My knowledge of most people trying to setup as garage peeps goes something like this...

Yeah I know loads about the 300ZX and so I will setup doing cambelt changes, turbos and anything else...

But...

Then...

Oh f\/ck I done a few and they are spot on and everybody loves me...

But...

Oops I f\/cked up and now I am in this particular customers bad books coz his car is Phuket!!!

Yeah it's good while you're doing ACE compardre but when it all goes Pete Tong you are in the firing line! Savvy! ;)

So are you like those lazy *******s who sit in their nice office looking out of the window while people like me run around stressed out because some "in house" software development have done, keeps crashing and they know about the problems but dont have time to fix it, and the 1 day it goes tits up after 3 months of constently having to fight to keep the systems working, I get blamed for it?

;)

I have found something out in IT already after only a few years of working here. The more you get paid, the less you do. ;)

LOL!! been in the motor trade all my life, wanna swap?? :D

no matter what you do, if you do it day in & day out you will get fed up with it! although iv still got a passion for cars, i dont exactly go into work these days filled with excitment!!

the motor trade can be a serious money pit these days. i have always wanted my own garage but would not do it now as the amount of smaller garages that are finding it hard & closing down is increasing all the time. besides - i prob earn more where i am for less stress!

i actually trained to MCSE level in an attempt to get a job in IT a couple of years back! the pay was too low for me tho :(

good luck if you do decide to do it but give it a LOT of thought before jumping in!!
