I got caught by a roadside mobile camera 2 weeks ago doing 60mph in a 30 zone. I had the letter today to reply and tell them who was driving :(

The letter says i could get 3-6points and up to £1000 fine or a ban at the courts discretion.

Has anyone on here been caught doing the same kinda speed difference and what kinda fine and points did ya get?????

Any help would be appreciated. I want to go back and do my paramedic training but cant have more than 3 points :headvswal

Sorry to hear that Anna, hope you get it sorted.

For those who are making an issue of it, there are plenty of places that quietly go from a 60mph large country road to a 30mph built up area. I drive from Cornwall to Plymouth reguarly and there are at least three cameras on the outskirts of villages (two of them coming from dual carriage ways). It doesn't take dangerous or reckless driving to make the mistake Anna has.

Get a decent solicitor. If it goes to court, dress conservatively, advertise the car for sale (you don't have to sell it...!), be ultra apologetic, mention the ambulance thing, make out it was a "real wake up call", "you're selling the car", etc etc

Shows your sorry and dont want it to happen again so selling the high powered sports car for something tamer I guess.

Really sorry to hear this Anna, Feel gutted for ya.. These mobile speed cameras are nothing more than a revinue making machine and I hate them.. Like everyone has already said just make out your really, really sorry and the should be leanient with you! ;) Oh and make a Radar detector your next modification!! Best of luck though. :D

I would say that speed would result in a court appearance! The fine is then means tested.

No sympathy I'm afraid from this quarter - anyone caught doing TWICE the speed limit needs to be "reminded" that it is not legal to do so.

I, and my children, regularly cycle on roads like this and drivers who do that sort of speed need to be discouraged from doing so to ensure our safety.

while i understand this type of attitude, its nothing short of hypocrosy IMO.

at what point does knowingly going any amount over the speed limit become acceptable?!

face it - weve all got fookin quick cars & knowingly break the law!! :x:

What does selling the car have to do with it?

Yes, this shows you've taken the whole thing very seriously like Suffolk ZX says.

I used to be a reporter on a local paper and sat in the magistrates court every week. The right attitude and preparation can make all the difference.

I don't want to moralise about speed etc. Sometimes 30mph is too fast for a 30mph limit.

And sometimes (like when a national speed limit goes to a 30mph far too early), more than the speed limit can be safe.

We all break the speed limit and in doing so gamble with our own and others safety. We're all adults and know what we're doing.

i think its an instant ban on twice the limit and over 100mph, the degree of the ban depends on the conditions, eg. someone i know got caught doing avg 110 on the motorway and was given a 28 day ban plus £120 fine no points.

60 in a 30 is seriously frowned upon and they like to make examples of those doing it, so you'll be lucky to if you don't get at least a 3month ban and upto a £1000 fine.

if they give you the option of dangerous drivving awareness programme thing do it they make you feel real guilty brings somepeople to tears but you in affect get away with the offence.

Why the hell did we all by a 300ZX in the first place, to drive slowly everywhere?? I think not. No let's be honest nailing it in a built up area especially where there are schools and children and young mothers involved is NOT a clever idea but the occasional yeeeha blip on a duel carrage way or motorway is more acceptable... There is a time and a place for everything but not when peoples lives are at steak.

There is NO point at which it is acceptable - we all do it and we all should accept the consequences of doing so - but TWICE the limit in a 30 zone is, IMHO, just a serious accident waiting to happen. The speed limit is there for a reason.

LOL @ at steak!!

this is what i mean tho - who decides that its acceptable - you?? its not acceptable thats why its against the law!!

theres prob quite a few on here that have done 140+ on a motorway (no me - mine was done on a private test track ;) ) - thats twice the limit! is that acceptable then??

yes it was naughty, yes she got caught! thats it really, were all guilty to some extent - even if we do justify it to ourselves!!

I agree, but I know this road and bear in mind that its a wide open country road, and it happened just a few yards past the speed limit sign where it drops from 60mph, quite a bit before the village starts (its positioned so far away so that drivers will have slowed down by the time they actually reach the village), and not in a built up residential area.

Yes, its wrong, but there is a difference between 60 in a 30 in that scenario, and 60 in a 30 though a built up area or past a school.

Additionally as someone who wants to do Paramedic training she should be aware more than most that SPEED KILLS.

you harsh man! ;)

No disrespect to Anna, but doing 60 in a 30 zone is just plain stupidity, I hope they dont take ya licence off of you or take too many zedtonions, but you do deserve a bit of a slap i'm afraid!

if you cant do the time dont do the crime !

Simple. in this day and age were motorists are persecuted and taxed to the limit, you either obay the rules or stack the odds in your favour. if not put your hands up and trousers down and prepare to be shafted by the courts.

Personally I do not speed in my zed...

I drive at 30 everywhere, even on the motorway... :hurl:

What!! Even up your Driveway?? :D

You know I am continuously having my wife moan at me for going to fast, no like a mad man but creeping over the limit, last time we were out and she was driving I caught her at it and said see just how easy it is, yes 60 in a 30 is silly but if its just where a change of limit is and you know the road conditions late at night maybe then these things can happen, doesnt mean you are a bad person and should be hung.

im gunna put my neck on the line, so to speak, and say that im sure there arent many of us on here with freedom of speech about speeding........we are driving 3ltr TT cars! some of us just havent been caught :nelson:

however IMO i do feel there is a big difference from someone getting caught 5/10 mph over the limit as opposed to these muppets who think the local town centre is there personal race track (too many boy racers in scarboro)!!

in these kind of situations i think the issue shouldnt be "how do i get out of this?", but rather "going to make sure i dont do it again".

anna, im not guna tell you your a bad person or anything, im sure thats the last thing you want to hear. all i would say is that in my situation i have been caught speeding (maybe not as excessive as you ;) ), and its just made me more aware of the speed limits whilst driving, and determined not to do it again. it is very easy in all innocence to be "day dreaming" and not realise how fast your actually going!

hard as it is, you will have to just take whatever is given and make sure it dont happen again. we learn from our mistakes.........im starting to sound like my dad!!! :o

well said to the above.

We only seem to start moaning or worrying when we've been caught?? We all need to be more Observant of the speed limits :(

We all moan about the Speed camera's milking us of Revenue but if we didn't speed in the first place they would not be able to make Revenue out of us... :)

Long And Short Of It, Whether We Feel Its Right Or Wrong, Is Dont Speed And You Wont Get Caught!

We all moan about the Speed camera's milking us of Revenue but if we didn't speed in the first place they would not be able to make Revenue out of us... :)

and they would find another way of getting the money out of us, they need how ever many millions to waste and if the government doesnt get it from speed cameras etc they will try another way.

Its one of those things im afraid, we've all done it, we'll all do it again and no doubt sooner or later we'll all get caught!!

60 in a 30 is a bit too naughty thou, especially if you know the village.
