300zx TT Caliper help.

Hello,

I have a set of Zed calipers to put on my S13, but before I do I want to recon them.

Any one got any idea what I'm supposed to do, replace piston seals etc.

Also does anyone know where i can get a decent exploded diagram for them, they are the cast iron ones.

Thanks Y'all, smile.gif

I just picked up a seal kit to do mine when I get the chance. I got one replacement caliper on mine and one red painted one on the front one!. I noticed the dust boots on the red one were a bit perished and torn looking although the pistons seem free enough. Anyway I'll replace them soon. Think the kit cost about £36 - £40 from Nissan. Also they gave me the print of the exploded diagram from their parts system.

There are piston / cylinder seals for all four pistons each side, dust boots (bellows) and new circlip thingys to retain the dust boots oh and some nice pink grease and a little hat for your nipples!

Seal kit part No is 41120 - 30P26. I plan to get the pistons nearly all the way out. Then remove the caliper from the car then use air one piston at at time to take em out clean them and replace all the seals. Unless anyone can tell me the right way please?

Ive just took some apart and there is really nothing to them, you wouldnt need a diagram. Im sure that Courtesy in the states do a caliper rebuild kit that is really cheap.

Lovely, cheers boys. smile.gif

My weekend is just going to be soo exciting. wink.gif

Sorry to drag this back up, but what happens if I seperate the two halves of the caliper?

I have the Cast Iron ones, is there a gasket between the halves, or is it a no no to separate them?

I wanna get them to bits tonight so I can start cleaning them.

Cheers,

Jezz.

Dont separate the 2 halves whatever you do. Never tried it myself but I would guess you'll never be able to seal the halves together again properly. Anyway why would you do that? You can get the pistons all out once its off the car, one at a time using air.

I want to clean them a lot.

They look like that have sat on a scrapper for a while and gone a bit rusty as well as covered in loads of oil & clag.

I have moved all of the pistons though so they are not siezed.

Cheers,

Jezz.

Block all the holes up completely, then get 'em sandblasted.

Cool, then what about paining them after, any suggestions?

Do they actually need painting?

I has been banded around our board, but whaddya reckon?

Jez- I painted the calipers on my renault with Foliatec caliper paint.. Looks quite nice, I think, easy to use - didn't even have to remove the calipers to do it, and the laquer (two part) sticks to anything (just wire brushed them first, and sprayed with brake cleaner etc), and is very very heat resistant..

Just nothing too gaudy smile.gif I did mine blue - thought it looked quite nice, black's good too..

Cheers, I'll probably do them black, I'd like red, but it's just not me. smile.gif

Not very exciting I know but saves unwanted attention, and me looking like a tw@ in my car with show off bits. smile.gif
