Stock Z32 TT

Dear All

Thank you for your prompt responses to my last message. It is nice to be talking to people who share the same interest and know what they are talking about through experience. Z32s Are pretty sparce in Swindon.

My next question is how reliable are stock UK Z32 TTs from when they were first produced to cease of UK production? Are there any major things to look for in each year of production?

Regards

MJ

MJ,

Think there are only 2 Z's in Swindon, I've got the white one biggrin.gif

Hello Jay

Nice to 'meet' you.

I have seen a couple of white ones, one was an 'M' plate. I have also seen a couple of red ones with private plates, one is a lady's the other a man owns (apparently this one is seen round Gorsehill way quite a bit) and I have seen a graphite grey and a black one.

What spec is yours, how do you rate it? What is it like to maintain?

I have liked them for time. My uncle has owned all the Zs except the Z32 and my dad has had a few inc, uding the Z31. I have yet to test drive one.

hi welcome to zed mahem biggrin.gif

Uk production was from 1990-1996 (i think)

Jap production stopped at the end of 2000.

As a stock car depending on how well it has been looked after, they are very very reliable so long as you dont skimp on maintnenece and just fix all the little problems, you really will have a very very good car indeed.

Hi there, I've got a stock UK supplied ZX300, not quite in Swindon but Maidenhead (does that count). The car is Blue was registered in 93, 60k on the clock and came with FSH. I've owned it for a couple of months and it's been fairly railable apart from small problems (I'll post these later and seek words of wisdom) which are slowly driving me up the wall.

I am just a bit concerned about getting a bad egg. Not exactly the easiest of cars to work on on your driveway.

Any preferences to auto or manual. How do they perform against each other, stock?

Auto vs Manual ... oh no, here we go again

On a more serious note, it depends what you want the car for. I think of mine as a luxury cruiser that just happens to be a bit faster and better around corners than the average Merc (and judging by the Mercs I've driven I find the 300ZX a lot more comfortable too) and most of my driving is pretty laid back and the auto box is great when you stamp on the loud pedal and it changes down pretty damn quick. Its great for standing start pullaways from traffic lights and smoothes out the power delivery very nicely but is not as fun around the twisties as it will tend to use the highest gear possible when you lift off the throttle unless you manually select the lower gears.

Autos seem more common, particularly with the imports. The import autos have the extra feature of switchable "Power" (ie sport) and "Hold" (ie use the highest possible gear, don't kick down, don't use 1st gear) modes

If you're buying the car for its performance and want to be totally in control (hands up control freaks) then definitely go for a manual.

Enjoy the hunt, resist the temptation to buy the first one you drive (yeah, I know its hard, it was too hard for me lol)

I have been thinking more about an auto since driving my dad's LS400 it is so lazy and easy and I do not rag cars around so would never really use the manual to its full potential, but at 282bhp it is still a quick auto. My dad's is quite nippy for a 241bhp, near two tonne car so the 300ZX should be quite fun.

Did the car change much from its intial production to end of production. I see there is a Series 2 which some slight changes. Can anyone point out the main changes please?

Might be selling mine in a couple of months if you want a nice stock black auto TT. I'm in Bristol a lot so I'm fairly local if you wanna ride sometime. Its a fantastic car for lazily driving around.

There's a good Japanese site the lists the differences between the various years. http://www.sun-inet.or.jp/~falcon/club/ You'll need a translator like AltaVista though. http://world.altavista.com/sites/gben/pos/babelfish/tr

Oddly it always translates Fairlady as Fair Ready ! Maybe it works phonetically too !

Take a look at :- http://www.sun-inet.or.jp/~falcon/club/zdata.htm and http://www.sun-inet.or.jp/~falcon/club/hikaku/nensiki.htm

MJ,

I have the white J plate with 18's.

If you want a look/quick spin, mail me off forum.

Jay

Reading that, I have half the features from a what they call 1 quater and half of a 2 quater.

Thank you for all the information, I have made a note of it.

Jay and Dylan, I have sent you an e-mail.

Regards

MJ
