Ive read in a few searchs these thing are not up to much, and mine seems to be proving no different.... it works as and when it wants really (well at least i hope thats the case and im not randomly running no oil pressure!!!) anythin i can do just to fault find whats going on...?

in that case any chance i could tap an after market one in to the sender for the stock one? Does the stock one require the rev guage to be swapped out as well or just the oil guage itself

Oops sorry - I meant oil sender. It's more likely your sender has gone (your symptoms are exactly what happened to mine).

I sent my duff one to AndyP to see if there was a way to fix one - but no luck. I think someone else here has tried but can't remember who. I fixed mine (and kept the stock not-very-good-in-dash gauge) just by replacing the sender.

Others just tap into the oil pressure line and add an aftermarket electronic or hydraulic gauge. Your choice, really.

 

There isn't an aftermarket gauge which fits in the instrument cluster where the OEM one goes.
