Would someone in the music industry please explain this?

I have CD's which i bought in the mid to late eighties when they first arrived and they dont jump or stick.

Yet every new cd I buy seems to skip after a few months. If it's a money saving thing on the coating fine, but we are now 20 years later. Surely there are scratchproof coatings out there now :headvswal

Maybe you looked after your old CDs better.

How old is your cd player as there are 80 and 90 min cds which not every CD player plays well.

I have personally have never had any trouble with bought CDs

I sometimes have trouble on older CD players with CD's that have CopyControl on them.

I also find older CD players aren't as good at playing CD-R's and CD-RW's.

Most old players will not read writables or re-writeables.

You may find some that do though. How ever you must select Disc At Once option when burning it, not track at once.

i remember tomorrows world saying you could skate on them, drill holes in them, cook them in the oven & they would still play!! yeah right!! :D

mate they WANT them to get scratched.... if they lasted forver they ould loose on repeat sales.

maybe your CD player aint working fully ?

Apperently you can play them on your Wireless Mike!

Would that be the one next to the gramaphone

And how many data CDs end up corrupted/unreadable after a couple of uses! They're sh1te really.

Thats because you buy cheap crap cds.

I have TDK cds which cost £1 each years ago when CD writers first came out. They have had years of abuse and I dont think they have ever been put back in the box, and they are still working.

I bought a pack of 100 cds a few weeks ago and half of them wont write correctly.

Best thing to do Mick is MP3 them as soon as you get them. Then burn a copy and leave the original in store and use the copy. Its what I do bud. Or you could just start with the MP3 and save money. Not that I would ever condone pirate copies of course. :smash: But it dosen't hurt to use a copy if you have the original CD.

Why MP3 them and then put it on a CD Why not put it straight on to a CD so you dont lose audio quality.

Good point ,I have a philips cd recorder which I use now and again but i'm afraid i'm not into the mp3's and downloading stuff just yet .Guess i'm old fashioned and love to browse in a shop ,take a cd home, play it in the car or whatever and store it.
