Do I have to inform my insurance company if I plan to travel thru hilly areas??

As steep hills are obviously a performance enhancement when I'm driving down them!

FFS you cant fart in this country without some jumped up little hitler charging you for it frown.gif

Where can I get a quote that just takes into consideration power increase and not all the little things like a new steering wheel (cooo-eeee what a danger that is)??

Bloody £100 a month for a car that sits in the garage and goes nowhere.

Bollocks.

Why not insure the car for TPFT for the 4 months its in the garage and then upgrade it to fully comp for the rest of the year?

That's what I used to do for bikes in order to keep the continuity. 100cc rider policy, then upgrade it to unlimited for the Harris Magnum for 6 months a year.

Not a bad idea Andy, must look into it.

What I have found of late though is that TPFT isn't such a great deal different anymore then fully comp.

But will check.

Glen - I know how you feel mate frown.gif , but find comfort in the fact that all the rest of us live in rip off Briatin too rolleyes.gif.

I'm with you there mate, it does take the piss. DirectLine wanted an extra £150 a year cos a car had some nice wheels, but are discounting less than that if the car has a tracking device fitted. Fuckers the lot of 'em.

Oh yeah, rant over wink.gif

Just a thought, could anyone arrange a group discount with an insurer for all registered members of this site? eek.gif

Glen,

When I was getting quotes for mine I tried many. Adrian Flux and Privelege both did me quotes based on bhp rather than mods (although they wouldn't have covered me without the brake mods).

Although Privelege were the cheapest, they were still about £2,400 with full no claims, no accidents, only a couple of speedings and age 31.

Good luck mate !

Have to say that group insurance sounds like a good idea if it is possible? Currently insured with Barclays sold my Overfinch Range Rover £15,000 of mods 345 HP and replaced it with my 90 jap tt with stainless exhaust and alloy wheels (major mods then) got a reduction of £29 on my policy! Can anyone explain how insurance companies actually figure out how much you should pay?

P.S I used to pay £360 fully comp for my 550hp big block Camaro! Surely since that comes from America it must be an import? The mod sheet for that read like summit racing catalogue figure that one out! Cheers Jamie

Glenski

I sympathise with you entirely mate and am dreading insuring mine once I've slapped on my mods!

Insurance in this country is a license to print green...pure and simple!!! mad.gif

Don't get me started on insurance!! you lot have it easy!! insurance over here in Ireland has jumped 20% this year meaning my third party fire and theft policy is now costing me.....£5096 a year. (road tax has gone up too meaning it costs me £900 or thereabouts a year to tax the Z, and all of this to drive on what are unquestionably the worst roads in europe frown.gif

That is not funny Brian!

Feel for ya bud.

Taking that to its extreme, how about getting whatever is left on your tax disc refunded and declaring SORN. Then you wouldn't need insurance for the period at all?

Raz

And that is extreme, but if you're being quoted £2K for insurance then it might be worth enquiring.

Brian do you have any relatives or friends in the uk? You could register the car over here and just come over once a year for tax and mot im sure a weekend trip to the uk would be a lot less than the 6k your currently paying. I have been involved in hot rods and American cars for years and know that quite a few French rodders do this because of the modded car laws over on the continent.
