Hi, My mechanic friend has just fitted a new engine to my '90 zx TT and after trying to start it, the revs remain at idle and cannot get the oil pressure to rise the engine sounds ok but we are a bit baffled as to what can be wrong!!

Can anyone offer any ideas to where the problem may be!!!

Cheers

Oil pressure unit is probably buggered. They are bad at the best of times.

Over time they dont read low oil pressures. The Nissan book says you should test oil pressure while driving at 3000rpm.

I think it should be between 63-75 psi @3000rpm

Would this account for not being able to get the revs up, i.e. when throttle pedel is depressed can't get the revs over 1000rpm

What happens when you put the foot to the floor? Does it misfire or just nothing happenes?

Nope. You sure you have the throttle cable connected? Its not got connected to the wrong body has it? Ie the cruse control and throttle are not the wrong way round?

Going to be fitting another gearbox sensor tonite hopefully,...the place where I bought the engine from has pointed in that direction111... as he says the gearbox sensor governs the revs,...does that make any sense to you!!!

Nope gearbox does not govern the engine revs.

You still have not said what happens when you press the accelerator. Have you tried reving the engine by pulling the throttle bodies?

I'll find out exactly what the symtoms are tonite,..let you know tomorrow!!...

Cheers for now

Rod

Has he connected up the afm?

This is what I was trying to say. If it misfires, it could be MAS if nothing happens, whether the TPS or even the throttle cable is installed

The symtoms are:

The engine is difficult to start,...when started it turns over at around 500rpm,...throttling up by pedel or cable at tb's does not increase the revs.

After a short time the engine dies,...and is difficult to start again.

Will ask about the AFM

is the air flow meter connected? or is the wire snapped?

why would a z over fuel and on o/s bank more so . fuel smell is bad and big white clouds billow out the exhaust behind, fuel guage goes down like Hell. excuse the pun Some one out there please HELP

ill grant you a wish!!!!!!

If the AFM was disconnected then it would run but only up to a rev limit of 2000rpm so its not going to be that.

Either a bad or wrongly connected TPS or CAS sensor?

Not heard of this sort of problem before so most likely something plugged back in wrong?

Plugged the O2 sensors into the wrong connectors?

Someone did this recently I think with very odd results...

A leaking fuel damper diaphragm (or pressure regulator - can't remember which) can potentially dump fuel straight into the plenum at about 60psi.

leaky injector o-ring would cause it to dump fuel obviously if its a leaky o-ring on a particular cylinder then there is your answer, remove plenum remove fuel rail,change/check faulty o-ring/s! or even injector best way to test is remove plenum! remove rail with injectors in place! connect fuel lines together! turn over car, then you can see where its leaking from!

check timing?

boost leaks?

if timing is drasiticaly out then the car will find it difficult to idle and be missing badly

boost leaks can cause problems check all hoses are reconected and in the correct place and all hoses are tight.

and as mentioned AFM MAF
