my air con bearings seem to be making lots of noise is it possible to remove the belt,or will that affect anything else

I would have your a/c system checked over. Does the a/c still switch on and off properly? Does it demist the front screen quickly in the morning? Lubrication in the a/c system is very important.

You need to keep the air con belt connected and use the a/c frequently otherwise you risk seizing the compressor.

It sounds like yours needs replaing soon. Maybe speak to Mike Feeney as he might have a used one on the shelf.

air con works fine but just has a horrible sound all the time if its on or off,

so i thought getting rid of belt might solve it untill i get new pump

It isn't too difficult to remove, I ran my 200sx without a belt for a while after the pump seized and it snapped.

You could remove it, temporarily, to confirm that it's definately your a/c compressor bearings making the noise.

You need to de-gas the system to remove the compressor if it does need changing. If the gas is good, you can find someone who will de-gas and re-charge the system using the same gas for around £50-£60.

thanks for the help steve i will remove it and see what happens.

Sure its the belt ? Mine is also very noisy, and its the bearings inside the compressor making the noise on mine. I just use it in ECO Mode (aircon off), until I find the time to fit the new compressor I have.

.... the new compressor I have.

Is that "new" new or recon new or s/h new? I've got noisy aircon too as you describe so would be interested to hear where you got yours from.

With the number of posts recently, it's starting to look like the natural life of an aircon compressor is about 15 years - at least on our Zeds.
