Car overheated last week.....two hoses split........was checked by a 'sniffer' for unwanted gases....afraid this test came out positive......was given a quote of at least &1400 depending on other damage that may have occured......is a reconned engine a sensible alternative.......any advice appreciated....thanks in advance....STEVE.... :(

Won't a reconned engine cost about the same a getting yours fixed ? If you mean just a 2nd hand engine then I would consider that an unknown quantity is is probaby best avoided if you have the opportunity for something better.

I'd want more evidence like to now see it chucking water out due to pressure in the water jacket or oil cream in the water at least. Did you "just" boil up and stop right away or keep driving like a dafty when it was over heating and waterless?

Have you replaced the hoses and tried re filling it and running?

If a head gasket has gone did they say which head?

pulled over almost straight away.....hoses have been replaced.....drove her home from garage tonight, drove normally as if nothing was wrong`......gonna get second opinion....will check oil and radiator tomorow.......no smoking from exhausts...wat other things should i be looking for..........

if they have used a good quality combustion gas tester then that should be enough to prove TBH

does the car hesitate?

tolerances on the z32 are very low a small amount of overheating can be fine
