Ive had a tapping/knocking noise in my engine only heard over about 2500rpm

 

I took it to my local garage and they told me my cars dead>??

 

Its a UK Auto Z32 TT, on 65k surely it cant be dead.

 

They told me they had a quick look and said it may cost £2500 upwards to repair!??? am i having my pants pulled down here?

 

He told me its had an oil leak somewhere(of which my drive is clean free of oil??) He has put in 3 litres of oil and still got low pressure??

 

Yet my car still runs ok, and hasnt gone bang...yet?

 

 

HELP, ive been told there is a good garage near alford that specialises in zeds?

 

anyway to check without having to take the engine apart???

Oh dear

he also mentioned the crank shaft could be on its way out and the tapping noise is the pistons hitting the top ???? TBH i no nothing about the mechanics of the car!

I think someone is trying to pull a fast one. I would get it to the nearest reputable Z specialist which I am guessing may be Zedworld in Tamworth?

if its still running its not that bad, an engine isnt dead til its DEAD!

can you change the bearings in the zed with the sump off? you can on most cars, maybe not the mains, but the B'ends are normally straightforward.

Well 1st mate him puttin in 3 litres of oil is a bit worrying as that is a hell of a lot considering how much the zed holds, so keep an eye on the oil level as too much oil is just as bad as too little .Secondly , You can get a full engine rebuild done fby a zed specialist like Ztech Near Swindon for £2500!! So definately deal with a zed specialist.. Low oil pressure could be a whole heap of things , but most garages will know nothing about a zed. How does he know it has an oil leak then ?? he must have seen it leaking from somewhere ? Sepecially if you say your driveway is clean , He maybe trying it on !!

Stock pressure gauges are terrible and show pressure unless you are driving with quite a few revs.

 

Check your dipstick, is there to much oil in? If so take some out as that can cause more problems than what you have got.

Isn't the Zen Garage (near Skegness) your nearest specialist?

bearings can be done from underneath even main end bearings is very fiddly but can be fully done in 1day

 

ztech in wiltshire for any engine work!!

 

 

as for the amount of oil make sure you have the required amount to much oil can blow seals which can lead to some big bills,TBH if your loosing oil then bearings will have no reflection on why your loosing that much oil check the intercooler pipes for signs of oil!
