I was driving down a road I use regularly and went past a speed camera which was pointing towards me. Got a flash - I'm sure they can only get you if you are driving away from them.. Should I have cause for concern??

Yup, we have lots of front facing cameras in Essex that take a pic of your face, "officer it was'nt me, it was the wife". Just cos she has no points on her licence why not use hers up aswell????

The ones in essex are changed from time to time...

so YES...they do take oncoming and passing from either side off the road...

You sure no one else was about that triggered it?

also...

just coz they flash doesnt necesarily mean youve been photgraphed...its been known for them to without recording data ;)

Shouldn't be a problem there. How fast were u goin? as sometimes went u go past it (facing towards you) at some certain speed it will flash. i know coz ma dad used to do it on the way bak form work. it sometimes got drivers going in the other direction worried i guess. lol

What road markings were there? If it is a Gatso there will be a series of lines leading away from it on the road in the road's direction of travel. If it is a Truvelo there will be three white lines together about 3-4 metres from it. Gatso takes picture from behind and Truvelo takes picture of the front. It is possible to activate the Gatso from the opposite direction but although there may be white lines on the road, it is not calibrated for oncoming traffic, I don't know if you can activate a Truvelo going away from it. A Gatso has a rectangle lense whereas the Truvelo has two round lenses. Regardless of that if you don't hear anything within 14 days there will be no fine or points.

off to have a quick look

ive heard recently from a taxi driver, that his mate got done for speeding but because he took the three day course and paid an increased fine he didnt get the points on his licence

he may have been bullshitting me cause i was ratted, but worth looking into IMHO

There is a driver improvement scheme that some local authorities offer as an alternative to points but these tend to be an alternative for due care offences to the best of my knowledge. However they do cost about £180.

Here is a picture of each.

Truvelo lense faces towards you

Gatso lense looks at your rear

Gatso.... Phew!!!!!

Must have been the Merc coming the other way - Could swear he was going at snails pace though...

Cheers Guys!!...

Simple answer for future - if it flashed you wont get done.

Front facing cameras are not allowed to flash as it could dazzle driver causing serious hazard so they are fitted with infra red flashes which you wouldnt see.

When I got done for 33 in a 30mph zone they offered me the improvement course at a cost of £95 and no points on my licence

But now you know that you can activate this just imagine the fun when you see a car travelling in the other direction! They will have days of anxiety thinking they have been done! :hyper:

The mobile vans are now pointing towards you, and taking your pic. My mate got done by one the other day

I hope they're all happy with the money they take from us, let alone other grief they cause. Last year there was a guy on a bike who tried to avoid one on the A316 as a consiquence suffered fatal injury. Fact is he died due to that camera being there, even if he was speeding, he wouldn't have crashed if that camera wasn't there. Now the coont who is responsible for putting the camera there is responsible for his death. IMHO

How many more lives is it going to take before they realise the fact that they won't make any difference. And didn't Clarkson prove that they cause more harm than good?
