Just thinking of changing the gearbox oil in my newly imported Z tt manual swb 1993. which type of oil is recommended for these and would slick 50 for the box be a good idea? Can anyone shed some light on this. Cheers.

I think reccomended is 75W-90

No need to put slick50 or any other additive as good brand fluids put EXACTLY the same chemicals straight into their oil.

thanks SRRAE. I shall get on with that. Much appreciated.

redline mt 90 expensive though .Demon tweeks sell this £17 a bottle [QUART] .You will need 4 bottles to fill as gearbox capacity is 3.1 litres. You will also need a syringe to pump in as redline oil has no tube on the bottle its a pain in the arse. Also a good oil is silkolene full synthetic. see oilman do a search.

Cheers Taff. Next question was quantity but you've sorted that 4 me.

Dont forget the diff and you want gear oil with friction modifiers in ... to allow the Limited slip diff to work. The Redline eqivalent is 75W/90 Demon tweaks will put you right anyway.

Are you holding your breath and pinching your nose to prevent nose bleeds.... here it comes then......... £90 for 4 bottles of MT 90 GBox and 2 bottles of 75W90 diff oil.

Freakin £90, but is it not a false economy to trundle round with crap oil in the car.

Oil man will suggest cheaper equivalents.

Once done it should be good for a fair few miles.

Giving you a silky gear change.

I only recommend redline mt90 for the gearbox, it is a proven oil that helps the synchro problem on the zed, oilman's box oil is an unknown quantity as of yet!

With the diff you have to be careful and get exactly the same viscosity as the OEM oil, as the LSD works only when the viscosity of the oil is correct!

Thanks guys. That's helped me quite abit. Want to make sure she is running right as I quite fancy goin to Santa Pod on 9/10/05. It will be my first time.

What is that viscosity then Mark ??

The Service manual says Differential / API GL5 for Europe which is what Redline 75W90 is.

Perhaps Im getting it wrong as I am no expert, try and make it up with my enthusiasm :)

John wasn't referring to your post old chap, just letting people know that the lsd will only work properly when your use the correct viscosity oil with it :)

mt 90 is a good oil but TBH if your box is fine use the recomended oil redline mt-90 is mainly used as mark says for cars suffering from syncro wear!iv used it and it works but id only use it if gears are suffering from wear IMO
