is it feasable to buy an auto boxed car and swap the gearbox out for a manual? Is it just a case of swapping out the old auto box and dropping in the manual box clutch etc or is there more to it..(ie floor pan mods...) im desperately looking for a decent z with the cash to spend but only turning up auto TTs and really want a manual..... also what sort of cost would the manual box clutch and stuff id need to finish the conversion go for....? just working out if its worth the hassle...

yep its feasable. quite a few of us have already done it

Parts you'll need:

Manual box

Clutch

Flywheel

Clutch reservoir, master & slave cylinders, connecting pipework

Alternator harness from manual car

Pedals

Front section of propshaft ;)

All the holes are there ready for fitting.

There's a metal blanking plate spot welded over where the master cylinder goes through the bulkhead but it's easy to knock out with a hammer and chisel.

Over here the whole lot usually sells for around £500 to £600

AndyZ sometimes has the kit cropping up from time to time. ZedWorld have done several conversions (including mine), and IIRC they can source new original parts. expect £550-£700 for the kit and £600-£700 for labour.

I have posted a complete list of parts in the FAQ area. (Plus I have a gearbox up for grabs in the For Sale forum)

Only £400 from Mark :wack:

sorry complete newbie here but the zen garage seem to be the guys to deal with from reading various threads, but i seem to be unable to find out where they are based :headvswal the money seems sensible for new kit to be fitted, and i definatly fancy paying someone rather than going through the hassle myself...!!!! if i put aside £1200 i shouldnt have any unnecessary suprises then.....??

also i take it so long as the parts are waiting before i drop the car off it could all be done in one working day... (i could drop it off and drive it back same day?) just incase the guys at zen are not near me......

cheers all for the help

That's what I said :D

Your auto box would have been mashed within minutes instead of hours if you hadn't changed it :o

Putting 600-800bhp through it it's not really suprising is it?

I've always heard the manual boxes can go up to about 600bhp and that's what you've got :headvswal

I'd say a grand would do it easy.

I doubt you'll get it done in a day while you wait.

It's a pain in the arse to do and took me 2 days just to get the clutch pedal installed

Probably easier once you realise its easier to take the dash apart to start with!

I beg to disagree with that. I'll rather install a performance auto box than swap to manual. Auto hold boost better than manual - even with high hp application.

I'm not knocking manual transmission cars or anything.

Quite agree a performance auto box is fine but a stock Z auto won't handle anything like as much power as the manual box before it goes tits up!

Look at the number of auto box failures people report on here every week.
