Hi people, just got some 18" rims. They're all 8" wide but would like to know what are the best size tyres to fit.

Sorry but what did you find? i'm in the same boat (excuse the pun!) at the moment.

i found that the best size for 18" rims (8" wide) are:

235/40 front

265/35 rear

you can put wider on the front (245) but they will rub on full lock (depending on wheel offset) and you can put narrower on the rear (255) but the 265's will look best.

the difference in tyre profile allows for the different widths and keeps the radius of the wheels the same so stick to 40 front and 35 rear. If you want to know why the tyres are wider on the rear, its because firstly you can!, secondly it improves road holding and thirdly looks better from the rear.

Cheers , but I just did a search too and a couple of times read that 265's are too wide for an 8" rim. 245's max . Seemingly if the tyres are too wide for the rim, only 60% of the tyre is actually touching the road. So handling is compromised for looks. . guess everyone's got their own ideas on it!

I run a 265 35 x18 on my rear 10" Azevs

According to Yokohamas tyre guide a 265 35x18 tyre will go on a 9.0 to a 10.5. rim range. With 9.5 the Recomended size.

They are EXACTLY the sizes I run on my 18s... however the fronts dont look right (tyres are a bit slim on the rims)...

I think I'll be going up to 240/40 next time round...
