just got my new bumper finally fitted, but the number plate will make it look crap! is there a law that states what angle the plate has to be or can it be at 45 deg angle?

Featured Replies

It has to be full up right and facing forward, i know this sounds dumb but hey the law is  a few people do get away with it being at different angles ;) but it depends on who pulls you and your MOT tester :(

Hope this helps bud

Matt

actually.. there is no british standard on angles on number plates..

The law stipulates that a plate must be fitted to the back and front of the vehicle and must be clearly readable.

My friend has a R32 with the plate mounted at about 30 degrees...

Admitidly, he's been in court twice now about it (when issued with the £1,000 fine for incorrect number plate display) and both times he's had the fine lifted because the plate is within DVLA and BSI guidelines...

what I'm saying is... it's likely to be legal, but you're more likely to get your collar felt about it....

so how is it that you can buy some of these jags etc where the numberplate is just a sticker across the top of the bumper, near the bonnet? and they are ok.. thats just lying almost flat.

 Just looked up on DVLA and like said theres no standard for the angle ? was told by MOT tester had to be up right as i had mine down in my bumper to start off with :nono: me thinks i will place it back there :D

Has to be readable by camera......  wonder why

The stick-on plates ARE illegal... but then the cops are unlikely to pull a jag driver as apposed to a modified jap bullet ;)

Don't think there's a law on the angle of front plate having to be perfectly vertical.

There are a few cars where the plate is angled down straight from the factory. Porsche 928 is one I can think of - mounted under the shark-nose it faces 45 degrees to the ground.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
