You've probably had this post before but i can't find what i'm after in the search.

 

My handbrake is high, the adjustment by the handbrake lever is at its max, so is there any other adjustments i can make? or are my shoes worn?

just a good outward throw mate to avoid body work just dont do it near schools or bus stops....drive by bricking is frowned upon

ok jack up rear support on axle stands remove both wheels

 

there is a rubber grommet that sits in the hub remove grommet,with a torch or light remove handbreak and turn wheel slowly,whilst looking through hole until you see an ajuster which can be turned around with screwdriver or similar turning clockwise to tighten do the same amount of turns on both sides,until you have ideal handbreak travel,do not overtighen!!

thanks for the tip, i've seen that grommet, is it the one sitting on the face of the drum and has a slot in it? Which way do i turn the adjuster?

not sure of the top of my head which way you turn it,trial and error one way to tighten oneway to loosen try both

Had this problem myself aswell. I did not know about any adjustment under the car, so what I did was to place a nut (just big enough) at the end of the adjustment in the car (at the lever), as to pull the wire longer into the cabin. Was very easy and did the trick for me. Be careful with the diameter so that it will allow the wire to be pulled furter into the car, and does not get "stuck" on the nut.

Hans, sounds like a good idea, can you post a picture or try and describe what do did in more detail. I'll probably see exactly what you mean when i give it a go this weekend.

If it turns out your shoes are worn then prepare to be shocked at how much a Nissan Mainstealer will rob you for them!

I think that the steel rod that comes with the Jack has a square end that fits perfectly into the adjuster - made for the job so to speak... And from memory you turn it clockwise to expand the adjuster. Trick is turn it till the wheel locks then loosen it of a fraction.

 

Of course do all of this with the handbrake off and the cables pulled through to the back of the car as much as possible.

Will not get any photos today, as we are off to Cork for the weekend (and enjoy a few extra miles in the Zed).

 

I tool the nut off the adjusted at the level. The end is "square-ish" and as to allow the square end to be pulled longer into the car, I took a nut that was a bit bigger (probably 2 sizes) compared to the one fitted, and used as a "thick washer" as to be able to tighten the wire. You just have to check that the "washer nut" is just about the size for letting the square end of the wire through and you should be able to sort without any problem.
