hi guys im getting a slight smell of petrol in my car ocasionally anyone know what the cause could be? cheers

I get the same with mine - when i start it up for the first time every day there's a strong smell of petrol. Aint sure if it's just running rich or if something's not right

hello mate mine even happens whilst i have been driving for like 30-40 mins. nothing to do with a hole in the middle of the exhaust is it?

Common problem on the Z take off the throttle linkage cover and start the engine from cold. Quickly scan every clip and end point of the many fuel lines, run round with a screw driver and tighten all.............99% of time problem solved

Check all the fuel lines for leaks.

As it starts to get a bit cooler towards winter everyone starts having these problems as things contract and leak.

 

Tighten up all the clips on the fuel pipes at the top/back of the engine and check there's no leaks under the fuel regulator and on the small pipe under the plenum/throttle pulleys.

 

You can sometimes have quite a bad leak and not notice because as soon as the engine is warm the fuel evaporates and you can't see it.

You can test for this by putting talc on the pipe joins before you start it then look for any thats been washed off.
