all turbos whistle when they are a bit worn but from what you say about the noise on yours they must be well worn do you get a big cloud of black smoke when you boot it

no no smoke at all

there is the smallest hint of blue smoke on start up but it goes after about 25 seconde and there is not much of it then im wondering if they are over heating or something cos they are water cooled arnt they so wondered if they were a bit blocked or sumat but dont realy know

well it could attribute to alot of things ie i think you have a boost leak but then the blades could be catching on carbon build up ect.

Turbo whistle on Z TURBOS is generally caused by damage to the fins of the compressor wheel. This will not cause the turbo to smoke generally - but whill cause excess heat due to the turbulance created by the compressor wheel that results in the whistling noise. I would not exceed stock boost and would start saving for a replacement / rebuild if i was you.

If the sound is really really loud i would think it was doubtfull that it was compressor whistle. It could be a Broken Shaft or foreign bodies in the compressor housing - in which case i wouldn't have thought you would be achieving 14psi ( ot 11psi even) - you might also want to check all your belts make sure it isn't belt squeal or something maybe is interfering with their operation.

The fact you mention it happens when the car is cold and has only been on small runs would lead me to believe that it is a tired belt. Damaged turbo should not Wistle under very low -ive PSI.

no it seams to happen when the car has been at full opperating temp and then turned off for less than about 30min then when u get back in to it it wistles when cold but that is a normal noise tut the other noise is louder and it has like a different pitch or sumat cos it is a different kind of noise

(sorry im crap at explaining things)

my turbo gauge goes to about the same place that the one on nico's picture does when it is on full boost if that helps

Sounds like too much speed for too long without stopping... and that's just the sentences! LOL

Mine did it after a cam belt change. Youve got a leak somewhere. Mine was down to a leak in the boost pipes, try replacing them?

Its goes once warmed up due to heat sealing the leak.

Hope this helps
