Think you have to fill the system with oil or something to see the leak? Think its a specialists job though mate. Sure it wont cost that much, they normally do it anyway when regassing a system.

on the subject, what are you meant to see throught the Air-con sight glass in the engine bay? theres nothing in mine, whether its on or off, hot or cold.? it 'seems' to work, could it be low on gas?

If its the condensor thats leaking , you usually can see a damp patch on it wear the oil staines it.HTH

When the a/c is running you should see bubbling in there. No bubbling, no gas = dead, empty a/c.

I'm in the middle of having mine sorted out. There was no gas in it (nothing visible through the inspection glass), turns out the aircon rad had gone. They test the system by filling it with gas like nitrogen under pressure. You can then hear the leak like a punctured tyre. There's only one real weak point and its the rad. I've just changed mine, it's a pig of a job but if you get the engine radiator and air filter box out of the way its much easier. It cost me £15 to have it tested by a mobile specialist. £25 for the new rad, and its going to cost £60 to have it re-gassed.

I did have a problem with mine, all the joints are alloy and one was cross-threaded from a previous repair. I had to cut the connections off and use a piece of high pressure hose and clips to bridge the gap - so be careful when undoing and tightening the joints!

oh well nevermind , lucky its cold enough outside then !!

i would advise you have a leak dye put in with a regas, this will then show up any leaks no matter how small in the future with a UV lamp

Where did you get the replacement radiator from for £25?

Thanks.

you can find leaks with a gas leak detector if you know a plumber he should have one and it will pin point your leak. this is what i did and found it was the coupling on the condensing rad

you *should* replace the drier, but you dont really have to.

where is the eye glass for the aircon then peeps cant seem to locate it?

on the nr side of the engine, its a steel pipe about 6-7mm o/d with a round glass on the end,and a schreader valve beside it. and the bottom of the glass the pipe comes down 90'deg towards the bottom. you might not notice the glass at first, the recess fills up with crap,
