As promised, a few vids here just to show you how awesome I reckon sequential gearboxes are, and maybe just to sway you ;)

Mk2 Escort and turbo bike engine 4mb

Dodge Viper racer 78mb

BMW Super Touring Car 19mb

Westfield/Caterham 1 4mb

Westfield/Caterham 2 12mb

Hope the rest of you enjoy them too. The BMW one is cool as he starts from the back of the grid and comes charging through :p

Straight cut gearbox, makes it so there is very very little power loss through the transmission. Considering a good manual box will cause 15-20% loss, putting a straight cut box on will give you 10% more power at the wheels with out having to modify the engine meaning less stress.

My mate had a sequensial stait cut in his Skyline. Noisey aint the word. Also very difficult to engage the backwards gear. Sounded like it as going to break. Not ideal for a road car.

On the plus side, fooking great for racing ;)

That Bmw vid was awesome. Strange mix of cars - Bmw Compacts, 3 series, Clio's, Porsche 911's and were those others Maseratti's ?

It said 320i, but it was seriously shifting. He was outbraking, out accelerating and outhandling everything on the track

My mate has been in a Lancia Intergralé with a straight cut box. The responce is amazing, and the sound is really cool. For the first 5 mins, then it really gets on your nerves!

I had a Jack Knight straight cut box in my (are you ready for this) Mini 1275GT, it was 10 years ago LOL

Sounded sweet, not as loud as the BMW obviously, but everyone knew when i was on my way!! :D

Well. I believe Quaife do 'semi' straight cut. They are helical cut gears, but only a very slight angle. Purely to cut down on the noise. I guess they are a % or two less efficient, but if it keeps your sanity..........

As Stuart says, a manual gearbox looses about 15%?? I know for a fact (from our local BTCC team) that the Honda Accord Xtrac sequential box was guaranteed to have less than 5% power loss.................

So if maccas car is running a conservative 500hp on a syncromesh manual box, he is getting approx 425hp to the ground.

Running a sequential box with say 7% losses he is getting 465hp to the ground. All this without any more stress on the engine.

Food for thought???? ;)
