Just paid the above for Optimax at local station in Cambridge. Unfortunately Tesco isn't stocking RON 99 up here yet. Might have to start putting standard RON 95 in if this gets much worse. Needless to say, I'm not driving much at the moment, and when I do I'm driving very gently. How bad do you guys think this is going to get?

All I can say is I wish my salary went up the way petrol prices do... I'd be minted!! 10% increase over the space of a few weeks. Outrageous.

Looks like it will be cheaper to buy normal unleaded soon and put octane booster in on every fill?

i went to my local tesco to fill up yesterday as i thought they may be cheaper and to my surprise they were 2p per litre more than bp or texaco on normal unleaded

I think when businesses start to fail because they cannot afford to put diesel in their vans and fuel in their company cars is the time when the government might take notice. Not because they care, but because if lots of small companies go bust then they will be receiving less tax, sooner larger ad larger companies will be crippled and eventually prescott will have to sell at least one of his jaguars! Cnuts!

Does anyone know how much haulage companies (Stan Robinson, UPS, TNT etc.) pay for diesel? Is it a reduced rate? If so by how much? Just wondering cos if they are suffering the same price hikes then they will suffer, as 10p on a litre works out at like £25-35 a tank more, surely they cannot survive that for too long? Their costs will go up, so will their prices, which means products being delivered to retailers will cost more, causing their prices to go up, and consumers will have even less to spend cos they already filled up their car this morning costing them an extra few quid... surely its a multiplier effect?

In the Sedgemoore services by me the optimax is 102.9 and that is the closest station to me that sells optimax. It is total crap and my uncles haulage firm who uses fuel cards. He pays the same amount for fuel whichever station his drivers go in and sometimes its more expensive than the forecourt prices and sometimes its cheaper but he said the fuel prices are killing him

contacated my local tesco store (peterborough) only to be told that they were noy going to be stocking the neww 99 ron fuel and also cuttin down to 1 yes one pump for 97 ron fuel as the demand for these fuels was not large enough to warrent the continued sales how fookin dumb is that

Yeah, there's none at either the Milton or Bar Hill branches either, and that Bar Hill branch is absolutely enormous. They don't even sell super, which is crazy. I'm going to get in touch with them nonetheless. Just amongst mates there are a bunch of performance cars being driven:

300ZX TT (me)

Subaru Impreza WRX

Mazda RX8

Honda Accord Type R

Honda Prelude 2.2 (2.3? can't remember) VVTI

Not to mention all the other fancy sports cars you see knocking around on the science and business parks: Evos, Porsches, TVRs, the odd Ferrari, a zillion Imprezas.

On may home from Bristol sunday I needed to put some fuel in but no Shell around. Stopped at a BP at services on M4 and Ultimate was £1.05.9 !!! fkin hell.

we pay it they love it we kick up fuss they take price down simple really weve only got our own gullibles selves to blame!

Had a dream last night. Hope it doesn't turn out to be accurate: Optimax at 199.9p / litre. Odd thing was I dreamt I was filling my old Renault with it (why?!?). If it peaks there we're stuffed: welcome back 1970s petrol crisis.

something totally different, have you still got your tt engine for sale? if so need your number
