I've been told that my aircon needs re-gassing. I read an earlier thread on this subject which describes how to check if the Argon gass level is ok, through a little glass window in a pipe just in front of the battery. I've done this and there appears to be nothing in there. The thread also explained that the standard replacement is R12 and that this is not available any more and that the latest stuff is not compatable.

 

I'm a bit concerned as the car is booked into a specialist on Thursday.

 

Has anyone else had to do this recently - any advice??

Yes, you can get it done. There are gases which can be used instead. Its not as good but still works well.

If it's empty, it may be leaking somewhere. Hope not for your sakes, took me ages to get a new condenser. Your air con engineer will (should) pressure test it before regassing it.
